#1: Peugeot 206 1.4 8v Hot Starting. Author: Jakey_206, Posted: Fri May 10, 2013 3:42 am ---- Hi,
Basically as title says, the car starts okay(ish) at first but after it gets quite hot it will not restart. When you turn the key it just clicks over and the occasional splutter from the engine but nothing.
This is a rally car build and really need to ensure we can get rid of this before our first event.
This is my first post so any help will be really appreciated!!
Thanks.

Have you checked the starter motor, possibly over heating. Is the battery fully charged? Check the alternator to make sure that it's putting charge back into the battery and the battery isn't the only thing supporting the the electrics while the car is running.
When you say it starts okay(ish) at first, I take it it's not firing perfectly. The two problems could be linked.
I'm guessing you've put the electric isolation switches on. Could the problem be linked to one of these? Loose connection or shorting wires.
#3: Re: Peugeot 206 1.4 8v Hot Starting. Author: Jakey_206, Posted: Fri May 10, 2013 5:29 am ---- Hi macca1411, thanks so much for your reply. Sorry for the complete lack of information!
Petrol, 1400, 8V, 2001.
Wiring has been left. Battery is 2 months old. As far as we know alternator is fine as it is only 'hot starting' which is the issue, it starts fine when cold.
When I say it starts ok, in the sense that it starts fine when cold, then can only be bump started when warm, also it splutters a bit and won't fully start when attempting, and then it just continually clicks over.
Thanks again.

#5: Re: Peugeot 206 1.4 8v Hot Starting. Author: Jakey_206, Posted: Fri May 10, 2013 4:05 pm ---- Hey Hawkers, no that makes no difference unfortunately. Thanks.

What's the engine temp gauge say?
#8: Re: Peugeot 206 1.4 8v Hot Starting. Author: Jakey_206, Posted: Sat May 11, 2013 2:12 pm ---- V9977, the temperate gauge is saying probably 90+ on max, won't start after its stood still for a while.
Ikson12: Thanks a lot! That sounds like its worth a try.. How much/how hard to do etc?
#9: Re: Peugeot 206 1.4 8v Hot Starting. Author: Addaz, Location: SuffolkPosted: Sat May 11, 2013 5:55 pm ---- Hmmm any fault codes? Any water in the temp sensor plug?
What is the vehicle temperatures showing in parameters? Ie air temp and water temp?
#10: Re: Peugeot 206 1.4 8v Hot Starting. Author: bikesforme, Posted: Sun May 12, 2013 2:18 am ---- My partner had the same problem on her fiat multipla , new crank sensor sorted it.
#11: Re: Peugeot 206 1.4 8v Hot Starting. Author: kandlbarrett, Location: SwindonPosted: Sun May 12, 2013 11:33 am ---- I would also try crank sensor but most (do Peugeot) bring up a fault code and engine light.

Thanks for your post mate. I've found these sensors are pretty cheap so no harm in changing it out anyway, sounds like a good possible cause.
How hard it it to change mate?
Cheers.

Author: Jakey_206, Posted: Mon May 13, 2013 4:55 am ---- Also, I'm going to need some more oil now as what I had has leaked/been used and wondered what is best. It will be revving constantly pretty high and under max load for an hour or so, operating at high temperatures and need to know whats going to be best for this type of environment.
Thanks again!

#15: Re: Peugeot 206 1.4 8v Hot Starting. Author: kandlbarrett, Location: SwindonPosted: Mon May 13, 2013 3:15 pm ---- So your car is using (burning) oil and / or leaking. I take it that sometime during your planned thrash you are prepared to chuck this engine away.
I know it is a rally car and the nearest tree could total it before the engine gives up so good luck.
