i want to get my cambelt and water pump done, what sort of prices am i looking at to get this done at a garage? also should i only use genuine peugeot parts? with the vvt on these engines do they need to use a cam locking tool or is it something else i should make sure they use / do?

Not sure that being 'able to afford a GTi 180' is any real achievement.

I thought that was a fair estimate. The price could vary by over £200 depending on where you take it. Some garages may let you supply your own parts, others will get them from their own factors as they can make money on them.

I'd want to see the look on the mechanics face when you tell them you want to make sure they are doing it right and using the right tools. You'd get the keys thrown at you and told to do it yourself since you are the expert. If you can't trust the garage that you are taking it to, to do the job properly, maybe you should be looking at a different garage.

I love the way that people can't take a bit of humour and then get abusive because the answer isn't to their liking.

Wow you can afford a 180... real achievement. Going to have to let the queen know and get you knighted.

Great way to pick up the ladies... 'fancy a shag..? Oh yeah, before I forget, I can afford a 180. hashtag yeahbwoyyyyh'

Crickey you're a right little s**t aren't you.
After speaking to a member like that and showing yourself up how can you possibly still expect to get a response from someone wanting to help you?!

Being able to afford a car which can purchased now for 2 and a half grand isn't an achievement in the slightest.

If you "can at least afford a gti180, and get the cam belt done" go to the f*****g dealership and get it done for 500 quid. You can afford it right? And I'm sure they have all the right tools Wink

Ban? My comment (whilst completely pointless) was just a simple joke, not a cheeky reply. What your response was, was uncalled for.

Dear god, call an ambulance, your insults are like a dagger to the heart.

By the way, you still haven't told me when I can book a haircut Razz

Don't make me go down the sheep route again Laughing

B'ah! Go down it if you like, i've gotten used to walking out to the garden in the morning to find half a dozen stray lamb Laughing

Nah it wouldnt be right to do it now but one day...one day soon you'll be walking down your stairs or just strutting around the house butt naked then BAM sheep through the letter box.

Laughing say what you like it makes the sunday lunch cheaper not having to pay for the meat when I have a field full of it opposite me.

What if you fancy pork?

Then I can take up ye olde art of "bartering" I will swap you my (slightly sexual abused) lamb for your joint of pork?

You couldn't handle my joint of pork Wink

So to answer the OP's question...about tree fity.

You couldn't handle my sheep Wink

Tree fity what? Razz

I should imagine your sheep is a quivering wreck after all of the sexual abuse!

Who knows I just get in the car, give it 6K and dump the clutch to scare them off Razz

and LOL think thats a slight underestimate.

To be fair I paid £300 to get mine done but I had it done at the same time as the rear trailing arm so they charged me less, I spoke to Pug about it before and they wanted £900 Laughing

I think we need to stop quoting Laughing

Ah not too bad then, and pug always has been insane prices for jobs like that.

Yeah thats why no one uses them lol

Hells bells, I am quite new to these forums and was interested in the thread title as mine could need doing.

Didn't expect to have to read through all this childish bantering..

On topic, I have been quoted £400c from a Pug franchise and £500 from my local garage.

Shame you can't afford to put an "h" in threads....

Anyway, I can afford a 180, can I join your cool, non-peasant club? And I afforded it six years ago when it cost me £7500. Now who's the peasant?

Dilligaf? 7 years ago I was still dressing up in leather and putting the engine between my legs for my fun. It's always funny seeing toys fly out of prams & thought it might make a few others newer to the forum chuckle too, so just call me the Necromancer if you will! Razz

(Plus still like to put it out there that a half decent, read-: not totally trashed, 180 can still be had for peanuts if you're willing to put in the hours searching and collecting from afar)

Kurtis' is still the funniest thread I've ever seen though, and that includes much hilarity back when I was on the VW Caddy and Toyota Supra forums too. He just takes the biscuit, makes it white 'n' soggy, and eats it too... Probably crapped it out and ate it again just for good measure.

DILLIGAF - excellent when performed live with the audience, saw Kevin Bloody Wilson last year on his UK tour - his daughter Jenny Talia from Australia was the warm up act.
I wear my F.O.C.U.S. cap at work, got my missus the F.I.S.H.M.O. cap.

As for funniest threads I've seen on forums ( other then this forum ) here's 2 i remember with fondness.

1) The idiot with the 207 that removed the front springs, drove the car for a short while then took it to Peugeot main agent who declared it a total loss due to the damage caused to the body shell - there where pictures of the damage.

2) The idiot on a forum that managed to destroy a Nissan Skyline on a perfect straight bit of road & blamed the cold weather.
One of the other forum member even did a POV video reconstruction of the accident involving an iceberg & polar bear - one of the funniest flash videos I've seen on the internet.

Oh my, you've just reminded me of another one to rival Kuntis. (may even have been the man himself) Can't recall the forum but I do remember the username "policedriver"... A Corsa boy who recommends that everyone (regardless of tyre size/vehicle weight or any other factor) should run 40psi tyre pressures "for less tyre slouch and better contact with the road" & same also suggests if you want to wring a little extra speed out of your motor, just fold the rear seats down since it makes the car lighter...

Then there's the guy on the Yamaha XJ750 forum who "lightened" his crankshaft with a hand drill, drilled out multiple deep holes in each web to "match" the factory machined balancing holes (as well as drilling those loads deeper because "they left loads of excess meat there". Not quite as hilarious, but he did well and truly spit the dummy when called out on his engineering prowess.
