#1: FIRST CAR, MODS NEEDED, HELP WANTED!! Author: JasonGrant95, Posted: Fri May 17, 2013 5:21 pm ---- Well everyone, just bought my sort of first car today, (had a saxo but it was just for f**king around in, clean scrap) but bought myself a 2001 Peugeot 206 and I was looking to leave it a bit more respectable to the tune of an 18 year old lad.
Would greatly appreciate any suggestions for what to do with her, but baring in mind I've no desire for huge drastic body kits, more so stuff like new front and tail lights, decent set of alloys, lowered then interior and all!
Like I say greatly appreciate any advice and thanks in advance, plus I'm working of a budget so nothin too mad!!

#3: Re: FIRST CAR, MODS NEEDED, HELP WANTED!! Author: JasonGrant95, Posted: Fri May 17, 2013 5:31 pm ---- What sort of money would a decent looking set be and where would you recommend getting them? Gumtree/ eBay?
#4: Re: FIRST CAR, MODS NEEDED, HELP WANTED!! Author: anton1989, Location: west midlandsPosted: Fri May 17, 2013 5:52 pm ---- post a pic your car mate
if its standard then alot of people go for the gti 180 look as its all oem
as uz said morettes are nice i personally hate the rear ones
#5: Re: FIRST CAR, MODS NEEDED, HELP WANTED!! Author: HowlingMadMurdock, Location: Ashington, NorthumberlandPosted: Fri May 17, 2013 7:01 pm ---- As Anton said OEM is a good way to go. Easy to get used parts and refurb them for not a lot of money and hey guys let's face it the younger lads are crippled by insurance so money is an issue.
Plus (and Macca will be one to advise better) if it comes to mods at 18 and your insurance gets funny at a later date you can claim it's all genuine Peugeot parts and you plead ignorance due to age and you thought that was just the spec it came out of the factory with (assuming you haven't changed the engine etc, just the looks), you could claim optional extras at the time it was first registered. You can't do that with aftermarket items, they're classed as modifications and will instantly invalidate your insurance unless you declare them.
So say you have a GTi bumper with fogs, spoiler, genuine Peugeot 206 alloys, unless an insurance company can trace back to the original sales agreement it's hard for them to show you've modified your car. As for wheels I know for a fact if they're genuine manufacturer wheels for that model you can have whatever you like on as long as it's Peugeot and designed for the 206 with no worries.
Go with OEM at your age and just say you bought the car with it having all the optional extras.
Plus you get classic GTi looks without looking like a d**k like all those idiots in clapped out Corsas with drilled exhausts and naff alloys
#6: Re: FIRST CAR, MODS NEEDED, HELP WANTED!! Author: 206-GTi, Location: EssexPosted: Sat May 18, 2013 3:49 am ---- You would still have to declare optional factory extras.
Depending on the insurance company, visual oem mods can be declared at no extra (not sure about alloys here).
Personally, legal is better as you could walk away with nothing of you had a knock. Then if your third party I guess its the same. Your vin number into servicebox will present all parts the car left the factory with I beleive.

Any part that wasn't fitted to the car when it left the factory is classed as a modification. This includes paying extra at the dealers for alloy wheels, mudflaps etc. Some insurance companies are even classing stickers as modifications now.
With the chassis number, it takes less than 5 minutes to find out what equipment the car left the factory with.
If in doubt, ring your insurance company and ask them if it will affect your policy. Better still, write/email them. That way if they say it won't affect your policy, you have it in writing just in case they change their mind when you make a claim.
They may charge you for making a change to the policy, so if you inform them on 5 separate occasions of different changes you could end up paying upwards of £100.

Ignorance is not a defence.
Posting things on a forum that insurance companies can see wouldn't help the case either. "On this date, at this time, you posted before and after pictures of the change" Slam dunk, insurance becomes invalid and you end up paying extra when you get your new policy because you have to tick the box where the question is "Have you been declined or had an insurance policy cancelled in the past?" If you are lucky, you won't get an IN10 (6-8 points) on your licence for the next 4 years.

Author: HowlingMadMurdock, Location: Ashington, NorthumberlandPosted: Sat May 18, 2013 10:14 am ---- Macca your advice on insurance is (as ever) spot on. Oh how times have changed. At one point they were ok about manufacturer extras but, as you rightly say, technology has moved on and it's a legal minefield these days. The moral of the story is declare everything.
Jason my own spec I'm looking at (and nearly there) on a 5 door 1.4LX is:-
Lexus rear lights (fitted)
GTi spoiler (bought today, needs a refurb and fitting)
306GTi Cyclone alloys (in the shed, need one new tyre)
Phase 2 crystal headlights (looking round the scrappy for some)
Interior changed to black leather look with red trim (done last week)
Possibly RGM front corner splitters (the last thing to do)
It doesn't sound a lot but it does make a difference for not a lot of money and makes a car look distinctive yet subtle.
And Jason if you're getting something from Yorkielassy they'll be spot on, she's as genuine as they come mate
#11: Re: FIRST CAR, MODS NEEDED, HELP WANTED!! Author: JasonGrant95, Posted: Sat May 18, 2013 10:55 am ---- Anton - Heres a link to the car - fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akam...7421_n.jpg - And I completely agree with the rear morettes, was thinking I might just get some Lexus light instead
HowlingMadMurdock - Yeah used parts is definitely how I plan to go, and definitely agree about some Corsa t**ts being about! haha, and like the sound of your spec, I've been thinking Lexus rears and Crystals or Angel eyes for lights on my yoke
206-GTi - Nice advice mate cheers!
YorkieLassy - Thanks!! I'm having a look around your stuff now
Macca1411 - Thats some serious advice right there cheers mate! And I agree anout messing around with insurance, not worth it in the long run

Especially with anything Peugeot / Citroen as you can check the exact spec it left the factory with in seconds
#13: Re: FIRST CAR, MODS NEEDED, HELP WANTED!! Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Sat May 18, 2013 11:21 am ---- Don't get Lexarse lights unless you have skin like a rhino. There are some nicer lights out there www.206info.co.uk/Foru...16875.html
Have a look on German ebay
Most people on here would say get crystals. They give better light output unless you go down the HID route
There may be a bit of wiring involved in swapping to crystals but nothing too major as the H4-H7 looms are available from the dealer. If you are lucky, the H7 connectors will already be there, and just hidden behind the headlamps. You may also need a switch from another model to get them to work properly.
Crystals and Philips X-treme +100% are the best combination, although I'm going to try Mtec bulbs next time they need replacing.
#14: Re: FIRST CAR, MODS NEEDED, HELP WANTED!! Author: JasonGrant95, Posted: Sat May 18, 2013 11:30 am ---- Big respect to you Macca your not giving up on me, completely agree about the Lexus lights seeing them in the pictures, they look like s**te haha, like the look of Junyan Crystals, whats your thoughts on them?
#15: Re: FIRST CAR, MODS NEEDED, HELP WANTED!! Author: HowlingMadMurdock, Location: Ashington, NorthumberlandPosted: Sat May 18, 2013 11:56 am ---- To be fair the Lexus rear lights and how they look depends on the car. On my silver car they blend in nicely but on something like red or blue they wouldn't match. Pics are ok but the lights look better for real. I would say visit a dealer in such things and see what the items you fancy look like up close before buying. But again, I've said it before, it's your car, you drive it, and it's what you like that counts and to hell what everyone else says. When you look at that car each morning and feel happy with it that's all that matters.
When we went to pick up the GTi spoiler today the guy had a set of angel eye headlights on and I asked him to show me how good they are. Trust me, they look pretty on the sidelights but the actual headlight beams are s**te. My phase 1's give more light. My mate's got genuine Peugeot Crystals on his 55 plate HDi with Mtec bulbs and they look good and do the business. That's definately the road I'm following.
Jason have a look at a place in Burnley called French Connection. They have a Facebook page and Ebay site and they're really good. They sorted loads of parts for my 106 and they do loads of stuff for the 206. Being a breakers you may get lucky, maybe not, it depends on what they have at the time but for service and price they're hard to beat. If they haven't got a part you want they'll happily tell you where to look too. And they don't mess around on delivery too, they're fast.
You have the right ideas mate, I would say spend a weekend doing the full detailing job and make the car look mint, your mates will turn green with envy

#17: Re: FIRST CAR, MODS NEEDED, HELP WANTED!! Author: 206-GTi, Location: EssexPosted: Sat May 18, 2013 1:43 pm ---- No worries dude.
IMO, official upgrades are the way forward.
Morrettes, sp grilles phase 2 bits etc, but of course speak with your insurer before buying and applying

They're not lexus lights then, Lexus lights have a "chrome" background to them.
So you dont need Rhino skin
