Sounds like it could be a relay.

quick update the clicking has stopped after changing the aux belt and taking the tax disc of the windscreen ( temp put it up by the rear view mirror ) so cud be the rain sensor was being blocked the air con comes on auto now aswell
the battery light is still on after turning the engine off key back position 1 , not sure if there is something still live could it be the key fob battery or just earth point problem
thanks iainlovatt

Your radio should be coded to the VIN, so disconnecting the battery shouldn't be a problem.

AFAIK the battery light should come on at position one. If the battery light stays on when the ignition is off, you have a problem.

As Iain says, the clicking sounds like a relay. There are a couple down by the drivers knee behind the fusebox panel. You could stick your head down there and see if you can identify which one is clicking.

Try a BSI reboot and check the alternator output. Both are painless to the wallet. It is possible that the aux belt was causing the problem. Did you replace it because it was slipping or just because of age?

thanks macca 1411
ive checked the relays but it seems to have sorted it self so no more clicking after starting up i will try a bsi reboot just to be safe and i changed the aux belt because the power steering was stiff and the belt seemed to be slipping ive checked the alternator output and got 13.45 -14.25 volts at the battery
