#17: Re: What can be stripped out? Author: usher, Location: northallertonPosted: Sat Jun 29, 2013 2:11 pm ---- I have started with the wiring it's a long process as i don't know where they lead so having to trace them then cut
#18: Re: What can be stripped out? Author: DSWR, Location: SolihullPosted: Sun Jun 30, 2013 8:14 am ---- Since the stripping of my car. We also had all the side panels off, including the door cards. Took the roof lining away and also the glovebox. I don't think there's much more to remove after that as the rest is holding airbags, etc. You don't need a passenger side one to pass MOT so you could take the one out of your glovebox if you seriously want weight gone. Just don't tell your passengers what you done and they "may" still want to cruise with you, lol.
#19: Re: What can be stripped out? Author: SinfulDesignCom, Location: Ashford, KentPosted: Sun Jun 30, 2013 8:40 am ---- You don't need ANY airbags for the MOT...!!!
If it is correctly kitted out, roll cage, bucket seats, harnesses etc, it is tested as a "rally car", thus air bags are not a requirement.
But even if it isn't, a malfunctioning SRS warning light is now an advisory, NOT a failure. So take your airbags out, take the SRS lamp out, or disable it, and you have your MOT. It is only a failure if the SRS lamp illuminates during test, or does not come on and then go out after ignition. But if it doesn't work at all... it is still an advisory. Go figure...!
I have spent the last 2 months researching this people, trust me... or call VOSA yourselves!!

Not that I've really looked into it, but the dash might not even be needed. As long as you can still demist the screen, but even that may not be a 100% requirement.
Dash can come out. I don't think you even need a speedo, etc. If you're not speeding, you're safe. Airbags aren't required but they're a nice thing to have.

Love them. Can't beat it. Nah, I'd feel safer with a big bag exploding in my face (oh dear) than trusting cheap harnesses... I'd want them both. Unless, you do buy proper. Don't buy a set for like £100, they ain't getting you far. At least change the harnesses and have a cheap seat.
#23: Re: What can be stripped out? Author: Harry, Location: StaffordPosted: Sun Jun 30, 2013 10:38 am ---- It may pass an MOT, but if you get pulled with no speedo you can easily be 'done' for it.
I've been head on into a tree with harnesses (no I wasn't driving) and trust me you don't want airbags, that would be like someone punching you in the face in addition. The harnesses do their job and keep you in the seat absolutely fine. Last edited by Harry on Sun Jun 30, 2013 10:58 am; edited 1 time in total

From past experiences. I've had friends on race tracks injure himself from cheap harnesses not doing their job right. You're correct that a harness is better than some airbags but if the harness fails live the kind I've seen. You'll be thankful something stopped you going out the window. Just saying that it's worth investing into some very good stuff instead of going for the cheap stuff. I've never had an airbag in my face so I wouldn't know what it feels like. Don't really want to find out, lol.

#27: Re: What can be stripped out? Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Sun Jun 30, 2013 1:59 pm ---- If I wanted harnesses in a car then id be looking at FIA approved ones.
#28: Re: What can be stripped out? Author: Harry, Location: StaffordPosted: Sun Jun 30, 2013 2:16 pm ---- Any half decent ones should be approved anyway, why compromise on something so important?
#29: Re: What can be stripped out? Author: eddie206, Posted: Sun Jun 30, 2013 11:21 pm ---- Its actualy dangetous having airbags in a rally car..pull them out because it only takes a rough corner or hard landing and the bloody bags can go off right then running the risk of sending you off the road into a tree or such while your driving at 70mph or so...1rally car=0 airbags...makes sense..
And who even suggested fitting a cheap harness in the first place??an obvious expense worth spending..
