Hi, my daughters w reg 14 206 has an intermittent missfire, goes for days with no missfire, then all of a sudden it missfires, the missfire varies from a slight miss to an all out, hardly moving missfire, not weather related as it happens in all weathers, coil pack / plugs have been changed. No fault codes come up at all. The only thing i have noticed is that there is a crack around the exhaust back box and it is loose, could this cause a missfire?, thanks for any replies in advance , Mike

a cracked exhaust cant cause a misfire you could have an intermittant injector fault or quite possibly be ecu related

Or driving related, due to condition of the valves.

And when, before or after the misfire appeared?

Is the tickover normally stable? If it doesn't idle properly I'd follow Timon's throttle body/sensor cleaning guide, it does make a difference.

Have you tried any fuel treatment? My 1.4 was running like a bag of nails when I got it, followed Timon's guide, filled up with petrol and put some fuel treatment in, did a 320 mile run on the A1, and she felt a different car after that. Maybe the injectors just need a bit of clean?
