I've also been told the oil temp is also fed by the oil level sensor. In my case the oil level works in dash but the oil temp gauge doesn't read. I wonder if it is this which does both jobs??

Plus where is the exact location of this sensor if need replacement, as i cannot find in in servicebox,, a pic will help alot

thanks in advice

I might be showin my ignorance here but i didnt think they did a non plexed gti???what year is it?

So your problem is that the oil temp gauge is not reading at all even when the engine is hot???
And you dont know where the gauge's sensor is on the engine???
Try and make it a bit clearer man and you will get better responses...
Unfortunately ive not had to tackle this problem so cant help there but im sure someone can enlighten the matter...?.

They did lots of non multiplexed 206's right from a V plate to a 51 plate. Sensor is on the back of the sump.

Also make sure oil temp sensor is enabled in the BSI.
I'm not sure about this on a non-mux though as the cluster is usually sepperate I think.

before this working fine.. like picture no 2,

edit:check it up it rise up but too little only little rise

could it be of faulty sensor??

We live and learn...
Unfortunately your pics dont seem to be workin heyziq...
I was just wanderin if you put a multimetre onto the oil temp sensor will it show a helpful reading at all,to show if its faulty or not??
Also due to the manner that the oil level and oil temp is displayed differently to each other (one being a digital display and one being a traditional needle gauge) i would expect them to be worked by different and seperate sensors...i could be wrong tho?
So is the sensor on the back of the sump for the temprature alone???

sorry mate, i'll update the picture later,
mine is preplex, so mine does not work separately. Still using traditional needles. From what i understand the needle will work to check oil level will work 1st on first start up then goes down, later time it will come down and will work as temperature of the oil... so as i start travelling the temperature will rise up

Going check the sensor tomorrow, heard friends said that it maybe the sensor got moisture or broken pin,one of it.. as the sensor is 3 pin type..

(was not my car instrument panel..borrow from internet)

look at the needle on the right side,

ahhh yeah!!!!!!i remember reading about the pre plex type having this little trick on the oil temp/level needle now you mention it..gotta be the sensor then..

Hey guys,
My Gti180 oil temp gauge sort of died just after replacing the oil & filter on it a couple of days ago - sometimes it works but shows very, very low temp and more often it stays 'dead' (below zero, as if broken).

Do you reckon it's an oil temp sensor problem? (where is this sensor?)

Last time I had the oil & filter changed the oil temp gauge also had problems, reading very low temperature all the time, even after driving around for an hour, but then as the oil level slowly dropped (yes, my EW10J4S burns quite a bit of oil, about half a liter every 1000 miles...) it seemed to work (showing about 90degrees C in normal driving)...

OK, sorted, removed the sensor plug (close to the oil filter), cleaned the contacts, locked it in again, and its reading the right temperature. (and oil level - I think it'a a "2-in-1" sensor).
