#1: Filter under vents on bonnet Author: tommy89, Posted: Mon Jul 01, 2013 4:08 pm ---- Not sure if its the cabin filter or pollen filter?
Anyhu its kinda under the vents on the bonnet - What is it for?
Just checked mine on the 1.1 206 L 1999 I recently bought and its black - What does it do?
Could this link to why the car smells quite hot (but doesnt run hot) when I get out of it at work?
Any help or hints greatly appreciated

Basically the air that goes into the cab runs through it, does what it says on the tin, more to benefit the people in the vehicle.
I have the blue interior too, got my eyes on a nice 138 interior currently.

I almost bought a Y reg GTI interior and spoiler at the weekend, Couldnt get the dam spoiler off and the interior was quite damp (scrappers) ... not the most productive trip to the scrappers I have ever had.
Resealed the rear window though!

Apparently it is a mandatory requirement in the EU? not entirely sure about that.. I know for sure a lot of new cars sold in NZ does not have a filter placed in there as it isn't required here.. Good to have it imo though as I would like to think it helps keep the air tubes cleaner

I'm surprised that a filter manufacturer hasn't teamed up with an air freshener manufacturer to develop a cabin filter that puts a nice smell in the car. Dragons Den here I come.
Well done for finding it though. Some people don't even know it exists and others need help finding it when they want to change it.

buy a £15.000 car and it smells like a 20year old minicab...as MAY off topgear put it..
#9: Re: Filter under vents on bonnet Author: tommy89, Posted: Fri Jul 05, 2013 6:51 pm ---- Oops - sorry, didnt see this thread had responses.
I have now changed it (think I got a bit of a cheapo filter as it isnt made as sturdily as the old one - but as it isnt anything the car relys on to run it will do for now)
It does now have less of a dank smell when I have the blowers on in the morning to work - That may just be because I have sealed the rear window properly
Next thing on the list - servicing it properly as the FSH it came with obviously isnt as comprehensive as I thought if they can miss that manky black cabin filter.
