Author: peugeotgti, Posted: Sun Jul 21, 2013 8:02 am ---- Its a fuel additive that goes into a tank with only about £5.00-£7.50 of fuel in it and its supposed to be the bees knees...all our local taxi drivers use it especialy at mot time(Darlingtons taxis are among the dietiest old knackers around but oddly are the closest monitored by any council in the UK...we had a taxi buisness for some time and my uncle still runs taxis.).
It says on the can Not to be sold to the public,for commercial garage use only(or words to that effect)
It cost me a tenner for a 500ml can from a parts place thats well cheap so it must be good..
The shops staff said it would sort the job so with all my other improvements it should sale thru retest...
I will let you all know...
Ps..i beleive it is called..D.A.E Combustion system conditioner for petrol and diesel and lpg i think..
Fingers crossed like...oh well better sort myself out and go and refit my throttle,Icv,etc. Now ive cleaned the hell out of them...come up gleaming aswell.

Tried the fuel additive from GFS £14, didn't do much.

Years ago we had pipes corroded the full lengths that we rubbed with oil and they passed and we never had comeback at all?
Will it pass according to the MOTs rules?is the garage trying it on?will i need to fit new pipes?

You need to find the reason for the excess fuel and / or check general engine condition.
If the car hasn't been serviced recently (oil and air filter change) I would start with that. After that it could be bad lambda sensor, air leak on exhaust before lambda sensor, leaking injector, not sparking well to burn fuel fully (usually felt as a misfire) or poor engine condition allowing lubricating oil past the pistons or past the valve stem seals (does the engine oil need frequent top ups) or knackered cat.
The garage tester should have been able to give you some pointers if you had asked at the time of MOT. If you are nice to them they usually will.

Timing belts, brake pipes, pads, etc. should have.
Its a no brainer when it comes to safety of children, people, as passengers.

ive got oil and filter to do next
Then add my wander fix fuel additive..its a can to mix with just a bit of petrol in the tank...see post" mot disaster yesterday" for info...
Once its all done i will give it 20mins of grace then i will give it the beans for a good while to help the additive and clear out any cobwebs as it were...
they always benefit from a good thrashing now and then just to de choke anything that needs it...looking firward to that because ive been drivin family 4x4 for a month or so and while its a nice pisition to sit and a nice place to be you cant beat a bit of performance...
.and it will run that bit better after a good decoke and service....

Just it leaves some doubts about the garage that moted it..
.ive spotted things i would expect to fail and things i would have expected to pass but both ways are a surprise and its down to the individual tester at the end of the day...of course they follow guidelines but still only human.

If there is anything risky about your brakes or pipe brakes, the MOT station will fail it - mainly due to you could die or kill others around you.
Sounds like they are being perfectly reasonable.

We have a place quite local where you can rent a ramp and all the tools and just get on with whatever needs doing on your own car and they will help out in a number of ways...so if your half decent with a spanner its ideal..
The charges are reasonable too at £15 an hour for a ramp or £10 for a bay and there getting a flaring kit in the next few days so i will take it there and save my back on the floor..
Will benefit from a great range of tools and a compressor so if you get cracked on you can acheive a lot in a few hours..also if you have a mate whos handy you can get twice as much done for the same cost...
Im not sure if they have these all over the place but ive used one before and saved a fortune on a megane cabriolet i had...they get parts in at a good price.they give you tea and coffee.they have broadband and computers.they have a lounge area with comfy seats and big tv.they will drive you to get more bits or drop you off
.they will muck in and help out with jobs and have the know how to help or show you how.there's all the tools of a modern workshop including a good vice and fabricating area...all good and not too pricey either.
