#1: Engine overheating and coolant boiling Author: thesigma3, Posted: Fri Aug 02, 2013 3:50 am ---- Long time lurker, first time poster. My 2000 206 1.4 lx is overheating when moving slow/stationary. I've begun the process of elimination, so I'm looking for a little advice to move onwards.
After over heating, I pulled onto my drive and opened the coolant, which immediately boiled over. So I let it all cool down, topped it back up and started the engine, after heating to 90, it then jumped to red, with the coolant boiling over again. It appears the fan isn't coming on at any temp. The fan does come on when I turn the a/c on, so I can use the car fine as long as the a/c is on.
I'm not sure whether it would be the temp sensor or the thermostat since the dial is still reading on the dash, but if there is a way to test this I'd love to know. Next step would be to take the bumper off and check the relays on the fan, but since it comes on with the a/ would that suggest they are still OK, or is the fan controlled separately for the a/c.
Hopefully you guys can understand what I mean, thanks for any advice
#2: Re: Engine overheating and coolant boiling Author: alane29, Posted: Fri Aug 02, 2013 5:27 am ---- If your fan comes on with the a/c you can rule out a broken fan ,i would start with the temperature sender check its connected unplug the wires and reconnect in case its a dodgy connection .if that fails renew it its usually a screw out screw in job .it should be on the right hand side of the engine near the air filter housing .

If I recall correctly the sensor for the temp gauge is a separate sensor to the one used to turn the fan on. That is why the gauge can work but fan fail to run.
I would also get a "sniff" test done. You may now have a knackered head gasket.

So im confused with what to expect, the temp sensor wont send the signal to turn on the fan when the temperature goes over 90, but when unplugged and the gauge reads red, the signal is sent. where would you recommend to go? or should i hit a garage?
