#1: ESP and ABS playing up (now with pics) Author: Ben.M, Location: SuffolkPosted: Sat Aug 03, 2013 1:44 pm ---- Last week I was nearly at work when the ABS and ESP lights came on and I got a warning on the MFD (ESP/ASR not functioning, ABS fault).
But when I left work later on they disappeared so I just assumed it was just a blip but now it's come on again and staying on.
I start the car, ABS fault. Start driving and the the ESP thing comes up. I also noticed that sometimes the speedo doesn't work properly until the ESP thing has come up. Well at the time I was in 4th and accelerating yet I was apparently doing 12mph :/
It's a Gti(138) 2004.
Any help would really be appreciated!!! Last edited by Ben.M on Sat Aug 03, 2013 2:15 pm; edited 1 time in total

After inspection I was found to have a cracked abs sensor ring
Could just be a dirty sensor on yours however

Exact same as me mate
Don't go to Peugeot though they say you need to replace the whole driveshaft so obvious it's a bit of money.
Apparently they can be welded

How was it to fit?
#6: Re: ESP and ABS playing up (now with pics) Author: lee1985, Location: North WestPosted: Sat Aug 03, 2013 2:20 pm ---- This is what mine looks like, if you see it's the same cracked ring. Mines the passenger side though

Yep, looks like the same thing, but yours is clean. Not sure why mines covered in grease :/

It looks like the driveshaft boot may have split and thrown the contents out. CV joints don't like running without grease.
#9: Re: ESP and ABS playing up (now with pics) Author: Ben.M, Location: SuffolkPosted: Sat Aug 03, 2013 4:19 pm ---- Oh dear! Well thank you for your help. I'll get a better look tomorrow and stick some grease in there too! Then it looks like she'll be off to the garage.
#10: Re: ESP and ABS playing up (now with pics) Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Sun Aug 04, 2013 2:44 am ---- You need a new boot on there. Which means the shaft needs to come out. Id just get a replacement exchange shaft from the Peugeot dealer. Comes with a new uncorroded ABS ring which will last for years.

#12: Re: ESP and ABS playing up (now with pics) Author: lee1985, Location: North WestPosted: Sun Aug 04, 2013 8:35 pm ---- Pretty sure at the time Peugeot wanted nearly 300 off me for a new driveshaft
I went lol Last edited by lee1985 on Mon Aug 12, 2013 9:04 am; edited 1 time in total
#13: Re: ESP and ABS playing up (now with pics) Author: 206HdiGti, Posted: Mon Aug 05, 2013 3:58 am ---- Mine does this as well, but it didn't fail the MOT on a cracked ring, so i'm guessing the ring was fine.
Does it over 70 - must be a sensor issue - is the sensor inside the hub bearing?
#14: Re: ESP and ABS playing up (now with pics) Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Mon Aug 05, 2013 6:11 am ---- Sure my drivers side shaft was about £125...
#15: Re: ESP and ABS playing up (now with pics) Author: crocdino, Location: LeedsPosted: Mon Aug 05, 2013 3:52 pm ---- Just replace the CV part of the shaft. They're about 25 quid and come with a new boot and ring etc. Once the whole driveshaft is out the CV just pulls off the end..
Edit... I had the same problem.
In the end though over the space of about 6 months it needed a new ring (CV) on both sides and a new sensor on each side too.. It's been right since (well over a year)
