My red battery light keeps flickering and the clock does too when I open the car door when the keys are out, what could this be?

What if it is not a lose battery terminal? It only started doing it today, the car starts and runs first time and runs smoothly

Strange one, it sound like a low battery voltage fault to me. I would have to look at it to know for sure.

So is it an easy fix or would I need to replace the battery?

Battery light is normally charging circuit related. Check terminals first as that's easiest, then I would (if you have a multimeter) check the voltage across the battery with the engine running... if its under 14v its probably your alternator.
