Was driving home happily the other day when I heard the exhaust getting louder, here we go I thought, a hole to patch up, turning the corner a loud clang and the whole exhaust fell off, luckily i wasn't going too fast. After looking at it, the coller from the cat had rusted through. I've now ordered a new one from react at £86 along with a new link pipe that wasn't looking to good either for £10.
Hopefully if the weather holds up this weekend I will be attempting to replace the parts then, for now it's all held together with wire, exhaust paste & quicksteel.
My only fear is the nuts holding the cat to the manifold, apart from soaking them in penetrating oil, any one have any other tips?

#4: Re: Catalytic converter Author: Timon2210, Location: PalestinePosted: Tue Sep 24, 2013 12:48 pm ---- well you done the right thing to replace it,as a new CAT is good for your car,and you won't worry about it anymore,so you have to be very careful with the bolts holding the cat with the manifold,if any bolt snap,it will be a problem,but nothing that can't be fixed,but will be costly.

Tomorrows the day, providing the weather holds out, i've sprayed the bolts all week, got myself a decent 13mm socket and a long extension bar attached to a breaker bar, hopefully it'll come apart without too many skinned knuckles.

Only problem encountered was i nearly rounded 2 bolts on the manifold to cat, trusty 1/2 inch socket hammered on and they where off in a jiffy.
All this done on the driveway with the car up on 2 bricks.
Drop links next, clunking sound coming from the front end and they look decidedly dodgy.
