#1: flat spot gti180 Author: paulspug, Location: Spalding lincolnshirePosted: Thu Oct 03, 2013 8:08 am ---- well seems ive picked up a flat spot in the rev range.
car pulls well in gears until i change to 5th at around 115mph then just wont pull anymore.
ive checked plugs, vvt and all seems well.
The car has only done 39k and if FSH.
I cant remember at what revs it was as was on a airfield, as watching out for pot holes,(racing a cc which btw was pretty fast itself)
Have i missed something obvious?
The car has scorpion cat back and k+n panel filter, but is not remapped.
Advice most welcome

#3: Re: flat spot gti180 Author: mattymj, Location: NorfolkPosted: Thu Oct 03, 2013 11:10 am ---- Has the engine management light been on? How do u know the vvt is fine just by looking? What plugs are in it. Should be bosch
#4: Re: flat spot gti180 Author: daykes1, Location: Ledbury, HerefordshirePosted: Thu Oct 03, 2013 11:49 am ---- forgive me if this sounds silly but have you done the simple things like coils, cleaned map sensor/throttle body, fuel filter etc?
#5: Re: flat spot gti180 Author: mattymj, Location: NorfolkPosted: Thu Oct 03, 2013 1:49 pm ---- Can try all the above except don't go looking for a fuel filter, it's built into the tank

Everybody said that but it doesnt. Mine and my 3 friends car have fuel filter under car near fuel tank. It can be change.
#7: Re: flat spot gti180 Author: mattymj, Location: NorfolkPosted: Thu Oct 03, 2013 6:50 pm ---- Can you get a picture of its location? Maybe the rc is different
#8: Re: flat spot gti180 Author: imjeeves, Location: Glasgow / WellingPosted: Fri Oct 04, 2013 3:18 am ---- Its on the side of the tank its not internal. It can be changed
#9: Re: flat spot gti180 Author: mattymj, Location: NorfolkPosted: Fri Oct 04, 2013 7:33 am ---- I see. I must have another look. Peugeot parts have assured me it doesn't have one!
#10: Re: flat spot gti180 Author: paulspug, Location: Spalding lincolnshirePosted: Fri Oct 04, 2013 9:00 am ---- hi
thanks for all the replys.
yes have checked all the obvious/filters plugs(bosch)/throttle bodie cleaned / vvt was cleaned although other than replacing i would not know how to check it.\even checked for brake binding on each wheel but that seems fine.
The plugs are all sparking well , and the engine is fine until tht speed, i was told the filter was in the tank , but i shall go check when im off work (n/s till tuesday
Guessing i'll have to strip it all down when i finish tue - just to make sure ive not missed something.
Other than that i'll be seeking a pp200 to check it all
Thnx all
#11: Re: flat spot gti180 Author: paulspug, Location: Spalding lincolnshirePosted: Fri Oct 04, 2013 10:01 am ---- aha
just been out before work to have a quick strip down of the obvious.
i have come across a two way valve that sits in the inlet manifold. one hose to the airbox -valve which has a electric connector-a hose to the manifold.
There is oil in hose the side that goes from the manifold to valve.
Not had a chance to do anything about it as gotta leg it to work real soon, but looks like i gotta strip at least the intake off/fuel rails etc to get a better assesment of it.
could this be my problem?gti 180.
#12: Re: flat spot gti180 Author: mattymj, Location: NorfolkPosted: Fri Oct 04, 2013 10:27 am ---- Thats probably just some sort of breather. I know which hose u mean. Im not sure what the electric connection is for. Im sure u can unclip the whole pipe from the inlet end and have a clean. Take a ride down to Norfolk. I dont mind taking a look
#13: Re: flat spot gti180 Author: paulspug, Location: Spalding lincolnshirePosted: Sat Oct 05, 2013 9:53 am ---- Thats very decent of you, thanks,
i dont finish work till tue morning, so will be in touch after
#14: Re: flat spot gti180 Author: paulspug, Location: Spalding lincolnshirePosted: Thu Oct 10, 2013 2:25 am ---- Thanks mattymj, but seems ive stumbled across the problem.
Was fitting a polybush lower engine mount and i noticed a lil bit of carbon around the cat exhaust flange.
On inspection , it seems it has been blowing slightly.
Will clean it up next week as ive got to go back to work early this week :/
I can only assume this has effected my problem , but wont know till later.
May well visit you next week if the problem persists, but will pm you 1st ofc
Thanks
#15: Re: flat spot gti180 Author: mattymj, Location: NorfolkPosted: Thu Oct 10, 2013 3:26 am ---- Ok no worries. Hope that solves the problem. It's like finding a needle in a haystack sometimes
#16: Re: flat spot gti180 Author: Lecktorious, Location: ScotlandPosted: Thu Oct 10, 2013 6:28 am ---- Do you have an induction kit fitted? I've found induction kits that aren't enclosed will suffer from heat soak. My GTi 6 was gutless at high speed, couldn't even get to the redline in 5th. Refitted the standard airbox with a Green filter = problem solved.
#17: Re: flat spot gti180 Author: paulspug, Location: Spalding lincolnshirePosted: Sat Oct 12, 2013 4:22 am ---- hi
just have the k+n panel filter.
was fine up until a week or so ago.
finding i can hit the limiter in 1st 4 gears,
but not had time to get under and seal that leak yet.It has however become noisier under the drivers seat , so 1st job to attack when i finish wed.
#18: Re: flat spot gti180 Author: paulspug, Location: Spalding lincolnshirePosted: Thu Oct 17, 2013 7:10 am ---- well, fixed the leak, and at the same time i added some archoil to the fuel.
what a difference.
The car now cleanly pulls straight to the limiter on the 1st 3 gears, and carries on pulling like a train.
Job done.
Thanks for all the advice and replys
