206 Intercooler fitted, but no power??? Help
-> 206 Problems

#1: 206 Intercooler fitted, but no power??? Help Author: Sammflynnn PostPosted: Thu Oct 03, 2013 4:52 pm
    ----
Got my Intercooler all fitted today, guy took it for a test drive to make sure it boosted properly and came back perfect, seen him go in it and looked rapid.. Came back into the work shop, turned it off, and gave me the keys. Me and someone that worked there took it round the corner to the cash point so I could pay.. But when I drove it there was no power, like a boost pipe was off. So the guy checked it all over and no pipes were off atall, plugged it into the diagnostics machine and it came up with Mass Air Flow Sensor. Does anyone know if this is a common fault on the 2.0l hdi or any other 206 models and wether that is the problem?? Thanks

If the sensor is shot the engine won't run right. Is the wiring connected ok? What other mods done?

Must be that then. Funny how it suddenly decided to do it on the day I get it all on haha. New sensor on order anyway so shall soon see but yes all is connected right double checked. Stage 1 map, back box chopped out and replaced with straight pipe (decat is next on the list) Intercooler.

Has then pressure been increased at all on the turbo? Could be the fact the maf is reading out of its pre set range throwing limp mode up

didnt touch the pressure, haven't manually adjusted anything if that's what you mean mate so hoping its nothing like that. No lights have come on the dash atall just came up as air flow sensor on the diagnostics machine

Getting dirt, oil or water on a MAF can destroy it. Highly likely moving pipes etc. has dislodged dirt or moisture and damaged the MAF. Very easy for this to happen.

A test on most cars is to disconnect the electrical connection at the MAF and take it for a test drive. With the MAF unplugged the car defaults to standard settings. It will probably idle like a pig but drive very nicely or that is what most cars do. Never tried it with a Pug but proven many MAF faults on other cars this way.

Are you sure the connector at the MAF isn't loose or cable from it damaged.

You could try cleaning the MAF with carb cleaner as it may work.

i have tried disconnecting it and it drives better but still not how it should, I'll give that ago tomorrow thanks. The filter is currently run under the pipes for the cooler so not much cold air is getting to it, could that have possibly messed with it as well?

Air intake temp should not have any effect on MAF.

all sorted now, runs perfect. It wa the butterfly valve on the inlet that was stuck on.

Thank you for updating the thread that is one for us to store away as it is an unusual problem and you can see how we were quickly looking elsewhere from your initial description.

Note that the butterfly does NOT work like the throttle on a petrol car and on a diesel it should be either fully open or fully closed.

The purpose of the butterfly on a diesel is only to stop the car from running on or shaking when you turn the engine off. When you turn the car off the butterfly fully closes starving the engine of all air so that it stops instantly.

At all other times when the engine is running the butterfly should be fully open.
