Squeaking and squealing brakes on GTi 180

Hi guys,

My brakes are driving me absolutely mental with its annoying squeaking.

It's fine on start up but once they warm up it then starts.

Thing is the brake pads still have 90% wear on them.

The discs have been cleaned and washed to remove the brake dust. It lasted for about 15 minutes but the squealing came back Sad

I can't remember the brand of brake pads but they weren't cheap n nasty ones and pretty decent.

Ok, so what is the best thing to do here?

Which brand brake pads are suited for the 180?
I'm not sure which are the genuine Peugeot ones? Brand type and part number would be handy Smile

Thanks all.

Did u do the job? Maybe not used copper grease which stop the squeal. It needs to be applied to the non contact side of the pads. Unless u have a brembo upgrade which do tend to squeal

The previous owner carried out the last mechanical service and changed the brakes.

The brakes are factory and not modified.

could be dirt caught between the pads and the discs.

Either that or the disc itself is worn/uneven. could need some grinding down or replaced.

aside from that, as suggested, could be lack of copper greasing behind the pads or brake shims.

Get someone who knows what they are doing to remove pads, remove all signs of corrosion from calliper / pad contact areas and then apply copper grease to the rear of the pad and to all pad / calliper contact points. Also check for any small stones stuck between pad and disk.

In summer months if you live on really dusty lanes or tracks brake squeals can return quite quickly but I have never know a good rust removal and careful application of copper grease to fail.
