Gti 180 problem

#1: Gti 180 problem Author: Luke.machin, Location: Suffolk/Nottinghamshire/derby PostPosted: Thu Oct 17, 2013 6:16 pm

Hello
I have a 2003 GTI 180 with 71k on the clock and full service history.

The car starts up and idles fine, the problem is that when it is idling it sometimes the car sometimes feels like it's shaking as the engine shakes backwards and forwards sometimes. It's not continuous though. Also when going up through the revs the power keeps dropping and as if I'm jabbing the throttle (not as strong as that obviously but enough so you can tell it's happening). I don't know wether this could be the same problem but when ever I come off the throttle at over 4k it's continuos popping and banging also between gear changes (obviously over fuelling)

The only none standard thing is a scorpion cat back (to my knowledge)

Thanks Luke

Mine was doing similar. Has an ecu light come on? I changed my coolant temp sensor and seems better

Nope no lights on the dash. Changed that sensor a few weeks ago though and no luck. Does anyone know if you can clean the fuel filter, as I know it's internal to the pump/tank.
Thanks

Fuel filter is self cleaning.

Check exhaust for leaks near the cat and flexi. They tend to go

Read the codes a few weeks ago as I had an airbag fault and there wasn't any other faults, will check on that tomorrow thanks
