#1: Spilt coffee on dash Author: chopsim1, Location: NorfolkPosted: Sat Nov 23, 2013 5:06 am ---- This morning i spilt a large coffee over the dash in my 1.4 01 pug. All over the key which was in the ignition, all down the fascia over the headlight adjust switches etc.
My car will turn over but wont fire up. Checked the fuses and they seem ok.
Opened the key and that is dry. Central locking works fine via the fob. Everything else works, it just wont fire up.
Please can anyone help?

That's a weird one?!
Ignition aerial (around and behind cowling at ignition cylinder barel) could be an issue if you got it wet while cleaning afterwards. That aerial (coil) picks up the signal from the immo chip inside the key.
Can't think of anything else so try a hairdrier around the barrel area.

Im going to the car tomorrow as i had it recovered to my work yard.
V9977....it was a capuchino with sweetener...I have a can of contact spray. I'll try that. Hairdryer good idea but i'm male, single with a shaved head.
I have a spare key with no electrics in it, just a basic key. I will try that aswell. But how will that work if its just a standard key?

If your spare key is the black factory one (no buttons) that has an immo chip inside and it should work fine
