#1: SamNI96 - 2004 1.1 S Thread (Picture Heavy) Author: SamNI96, Posted: Sat Nov 23, 2013 9:18 am ---- Thought I'd get a thread going even though you probably won't see much difference. Never know though! All depends on funds...
Gave her a wash over, hoover and interior polish today. Getting my autoglym on soon too:
Beside my Mum's Range Rover
15" Wolfrace Triad Hi-Power Alloys
The UGLY side of a near 10 year old cheap car... These will be fixed.
May need a new front bumper
Have some stuff that'll get this and the other marks away
I'll keep uploading the probably very slow, minor progress.

The 'L' plates are gone and replaced with NI standard R plates - we have to go everywhere at max 45mph for a year after passing our test. Lol
Getting the badges off soon. rear window wiper broke so just going to de-wiper it too.

#18: Re: FIRST CAR PROGRESS: 1.1 S 2004 Author: SamNI96, Posted: Sun Mar 02, 2014 5:14 pm ---- Been a month or so since I wrote on this but a bit of an update in terms of what's going to happen...
I've decided the car's going to be with me for a year or two despite the mileage as I love driving it. SO much character about the wee thing! I've got a fairly steady and well paying part time job but with the mad insurance and the fact I go to football matches every week it kind of murders my budget. So, as soon as the season ends (after April) it'll be lowered, phase two rear lights, a new radio and speaker system, a full valet, new front bumper, sp vents grills and fuel cap, debadging, dewipering and maybe a few other things! Basically you'll see nothing until then and all of a sudden everything will happen!
Anyway, that's all but here's a couple of wee photos of the car squeaky clean after a wash.
Beside my step-dad's VW T4 which has been completely re-done, must get an upload of that as he's turned it into a full camper. Unbelievable job!
As you can see from the photo, the rear wiper blade broke. It's just another excuse to de-wiper I suppose, at least that's what I'm telling my Mum!
Adios
#19: Re: FIRST CAR PROGRESS: 1.1 S 2004 Author: SamNI96, Posted: Wed May 07, 2014 4:55 pm ---- Well, it's with a heavy heart that I post the following image...
Having a mental argument with your sat-nav when travelling to a football match isn't a good idea when there's a BMW 1 series stopped at a junction ahead. Tried to get up onto the curb and slammed the brakes but didn't stop in time. Main thing is that we all walked away (myself in my car, 2 women and a baby in the BMW - could've been a lot, lot, lot worse).
Fear not. The 206 theme shall be continued. Going to look at a silver 2002 one on Friday so hopefully I'll have some progress. The wheels from this one (he's called McKenzie by the way) will be going on, I'll need another 206info.co.uk sticker (maybe red? On silver? What do you guys think?).
Anyway, sadly this one died a death. Real shame - I loved this wee car Was absolutely devastated on Saturday morning when it happened. Keep walking past it in the driveway, patting the bonnet/roof and apologising. Weird, aren't I?)
Until then.

#21: Re: FIRST CAR PROGRESS: 1.1 S 2004 Author: SamNI96, Posted: Sun May 11, 2014 1:03 pm ---- GOOD NEWS!

Photos going up in coming days.
#22: Re: FIRST CAR PROGRESS: 1.1 S 2004 Author: SamNI96, Posted: Mon May 12, 2014 4:54 pm ---- Hi everyone!
So, here's the story. I was driving to the Irish Cup Final two Saturday's ago and had a mental argument with my Sat-nav, which was telling me to go a slower way. Looked up and bang, a BMW 1 Series is in front of me. Slammed the brakes on and mounted the curb but couldn't avoid collision however thankfully myself and the 2 women and young baby in the beamer all walked away unharmed.
Done some car shopping as we thought this was done in but after getting it checked out it turned out just the track rod end and the panel work was damaged, making it absolutely fine as long as it got repaired properly.
So, here's the photo of the 206 with the damaged wing removed. I also shattered the air-con filter but apparently it isn't really important so I'll just take it off.
On the other side of the car it appears I'd bumped in to a post after hitting the BMW. This won't be repaired for a while, if at all. Just happy I'll be back on the road again to be honest. Here's the damage on that side with my finest paint skills showing the damage!
Here's the broken track rod end which essentially turns the right front wheel whenever you turn the steering wheel. As you can see, I totally sheered it off
And here's some mangled metal with the air-con filter on the left, shattered to pieces. It'll be taken off.
The front headlight was absolutely smashed and here's the general debris pile that we brought back with us. Half of my headlight is still down the Ballygowan Road!
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! ON TO THE NEW STUFF! I got a new bonnet, wing and headlight for £50. The guy at the breakers yard threw the wee grill thing on top so that'll be going on instead of the big plastic silver Peugeot badge currently on there and these wee plastic things that I have absolutely no idea about. Anyone know what they do and where they go, haha?
(These are what I'm on about!)
It's dark and I was tired so forgive the horrible focus, but the car will hopefully be mended tomorrow. That's all for today
#23: Re: FIRST CAR PROGRESS: 1.1 S 2004 Author: bistoo09, Location: GranthamPosted: Tue May 13, 2014 4:28 am ---- Good Luck
That badge replacement grill looks pretty sweet. Was looking for one of them for age on for mine but gave up in the end
#24: Re: FIRST CAR PROGRESS: 1.1 S 2004 Author: SamNI96, Posted: Tue May 13, 2014 5:58 am ---- Thanks bistoo! Yeah, really like the grill - and the fact that it was free makes it even better! Going to buy some silver paint and just tidy the mesh up a bit but I'll put it on the car first and sort that out when I get around to it
#25: Re: FIRST CAR PROGRESS: 1.1 S 2004 Author: SamNI96, Posted: Tue May 13, 2014 5:44 pm ---- Well, well, well. He's back on the road - all for £185.
I'll not go over the events and stuff from the older post. So, I woke up this morning with all of the parts including a brand new track rod end that was given to me for free sitting down in the garage. Set to work with my step dad and an old friend who used to be an engineer - the result was brilliant in my opinion.
So I took one photo during the day to show the vastly changed front of the car and the rest at night because the car is stinking and the paint needs work done to it. I'm going to get the paintwork all professionally valeted in the next week or so and give it a good wash and interior clean/hoover/polish because honestly the car is really dirty.
First thing was first. The mangled metal was all straigtened out and the wing was put on. The paint isn't a perfect match and it was originally silver, with the respray not being brilliant in all honesty - hopefully the valet will sort that out.
Here's the replacement bonnet. I know, you can really tell the difference can't you?! Yeah - it was dark and nothing terribly exciting but it's absolutely stinking.
I also took the chance to get 2 new front tyres. Apparently one of mine was absolutely bald and the other wasn't far from it. Not good! Anyway, whilst I was at it I got the wheels realigned - the guys said that the left front wheel was way off! Now that it's had the handling improved I really noticed it whilst driving - it's so darty and nippy, the steering feels tighter and sharper. I love it!
Those of you with eagle eyes will have noticed me slagging off the eyebrow things that I had posted about here, in the 206 Talk part of the forum. I claimed they'd be nowhere near my car. Well, I've eaten my words! Simply the headlight had a bit of a gap with the wing - we did our best but it wasn't perfect. Anyway, it was initially going on to fill the gap but now that it's on I really like them!
Now for the big moment! I absolutely love the front of my car now! The eyebrows make it look a bit meaner almost and I think it looks fantastic but this grill is just perfect! Unfortunately the clips to put it on didn't actually exist, so we bolted it onto the top as normal and it's currently having some ultra sticky black stuff drying it into place. We used the same stuff car manufacturers use to put windows onto cars!
I absolutely love it. It's so much nicer. I'm going to be doing a fair bit more to it as the bumper is frankly crap and it'll be replaced. Anyway, crisis averted and it's brilliant.
The best statistics:
Tow for the car after accident - £50
Bonnet, wing and headlight - £50
2 New tyres and wheel alignment - £85
Grill, eyebrows etc. - FREE
Labour - FREE (all done by friends/family)
The paint valet will be £40 but to actually get it to the stage it is at now was £185. Not bad at all, eh?

Cheers mate! Yeah really pleased with the time scale. Incident happened at 11am on Saturday 3rd May. By afternoon on 14th May I was out driving again!
The fact that it was all done in-house and the cost was so low (I was quoted £400 in the garage for the bodywork - so that excludes the towing and paint work that's being done!) is the best part, definitely.

Your welcome mate, like I said can't believe how quick you've turned it around, I can imagine i work in a accident repair centre, prices can be very expensive,
I always do my own work apart from paint. I can't believe you paid £85 for 2 new tyres and a wheel alignment thats a really good deal! i recently bought 2 new tyres and they cost me £67.

Lots of phone calls, scavenging and work was the key! The deal was fantastic. To be honest, to get it on the road for £15 under 200 is an achievement!

#31: Re: FIRST CAR PROGRESS: 1.1 S 2004 Author: SamNI96, Posted: Fri May 23, 2014 6:23 pm ---- A little update for you all, after getting myself back on the road I've started to do a couple of things though with AS Exams at the minute it's difficult!
So, made a few purchases and tomorrow I'm finally getting rid of that little metal remain of the wiper on the back as I got some grommets as well as the EXCELLENT AND HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY ME TurtleWax Color Magic, as well as some cheap windscreen cleaner which I need to do tomorrow. Smearrrrrrr!
As you guys can probably tell by the hairdryer, what happened next is no surprise because after removing the front right 'S' badge and front lion badge by crashing into a Beamer and needing replacement parts, I went for the conventional de-badging route lol!
I was so tempted to just leave the lion badge on, but opted against it. Happy with the results!
Also, I tried my hand at detailing for the first time ever! A bit of T-Cut in areas that needed it, a good wash with the sponge, special attention to the wheels and then a good wax saving me the £40 valet job! 3 hours altogether today well spent, really happy with the shine and reflections from the polish!
Another update coming up before the weekend is away!
#32: Re: FIRST CAR PROGRESS: 1.1 S 2004 Author: SamNI96, Posted: Sat May 24, 2014 6:27 pm ---- Second update in 2 days and frankly I've chavved my car as much as possible on a low budget lol!!!
First thing was first - the front grill got a good spray black. Struggled to find an angle with the camera where you can actually see it, here's the best I could do:
Also, I finally fully de-wipered the rear. (Photo with grommet in coming up!)
Anyway... So i might've got some gofaster stickers for my rear window!
And... Well, the finished article!
It won't be everyone's cup of tea, hell it mightn't be anyone's, but I really like it. The Cobra sticker was a horrible shape and I perhaps could've spaced them out slightly more but oh well, who cares lol! The back looks so much better now in my opinion with the lack of badges, wipers and... Sticker-less glass! Lol!
#33: Re: SamNI96 - 2004 1.1 S Thread (Picture Heavy) Author: SamNI96, Posted: Sat May 31, 2014 1:15 pm ---- Another update!
So, I've got myself some more stickers. [Insert "It looks tacky/horrible/vile/satanic/not my taste" comment here]. These are the last ones going on because it is starting to clutter up but this is so my taste - I love it. The adidas shoes are my favourite! Thanks to jam3spug on Instagram for showing me where to get them from - not sure if he is on here or not!
Next on the cards was a new head unit. I was looking for one cheap, and I found one on Gumtree. The guy was fairly far away from me but was kind enough to meet me in the middle. I wasn't too fussed as long as I could play music off of my phone, but I'm happy enough that I got a Pioneer one for just £25!
So, time to take the OEM one out! I used 4 nails to get it out of it's housing. That was the easy part...
PLEASE NOTE! These little things are the most vile, satanic and horrible creatures ever. I spit upon them! Thanks to Tolkienfan001 who replied in my thread on the 206 problems area of the forum and Mr.Richmond for his help too. Without you two I wouldn't have carried on and really forced these connectors out and taken it to a specialist, so thanks for saving me the money and time!
Right, so I had went to Halfords to buy one of these facia adapter things. It was £10 and doesn't even fit a 206 properly! Utterly useless! I'll be getting a refund on that thank you very much!
Anyway, the seller had given me his adapter from an Astra or a Vectra or something (I think) and boom! PERFECT FIT!
That's it for today I'm knackered. Next up are some new speakers, though this head unit definitely upgraded the OEM ones! The car is coming along nicely despite the crash in early May and, in my opinion, looks a lot better than it did when I got it way back in November. I can finally play music off of my phone! YES!
#34: Re: SamNI96 - 2004 1.1 S Thread (Picture Heavy) Author: SamNI96, Posted: Sun Jun 08, 2014 6:36 pm ---- Another wee update for you guys. Sort of working my way through the 'Bumper Guide To Budget Modding' thread off info and here's the latest instalment of my chavvy, cheap, 1.1 first car! Anyway, I was at the autospares shop the other day looking a new wrench and socket that actually fitted my wheels when I spotted a tub of Hammerite for £4.99...
And thus the preparation for my Brembo brakes began.... A bit of elbow grease (what I actually mean is using a wire brush drill bit to clean the calipers and then some white spirit to take the grease off) and it was ready for painting!
BEFORE
AFTER
This was literally my first ever attempt at painting. I am not patient, artistic, steady, talented... Anything, really. I put a stupidly thick first coat on but thankfully it all came out ok. It was blowing a gale - which dried the paint quickly but also made it very hard to actually paint in the first place! Hammerite says 4 hours between coats but I'd the two calipers cleaned, prepared, painted and dried (two coats) in four hours total.
I'll get a couple more minor mods done this week and that'll probably be that for another fortnight or so. I'm pretty happy with how it came out to be honest! What do you guys think? I know it's not to everyone's taste but honestly I really like it!
#35: Re: SamNI96 - 2004 1.1 S Thread (Picture Heavy) Author: SamNI96, Posted: Sun Jun 15, 2014 6:15 pm ---- Another update though a relatively minor one this time...
My steering wheel is knackered. It's all peeled and what not...
So I got myself a nice, chunky racing cover from Amazon. £5.99 delivered (reduced from £18.99). I really like how it looks and feels!
Next up was some new speakers. Thanks to Mr. Richmond and his electronic encyclopedia of a brain for recommending these speakers and helping me fit them! I also used a guide off the internet for getting the door cards off... Those wee white clips are a nightmare!!!
I managed to get that far before getting simultaneous phone calls from my girlfriend asking for a pickup in Newtownards and my Mum informing me that the supercharger on her Range Rover had exploded on the way back from the International Airport. Luckily she and my step-dad are fine but it's not going to be cheap to fix. I've said she can use my car since she's on my insurance until it gets fixed. How nice am I? But yeah, driving about with a polystyrene door was... Different.
I also filed the stopper on the butterfly valve thing on throttle body down. Definitely improved acceleration. Noticed it, thouh only when floored of course.
Just to end, here's a modification list so far:
- 15" Wolfrace Triad Hi-Power Alloys
- Badgeless Mesh Front Grill (sprayed black)
- Debadged
- Dewipered
- A few go-faster stickers
- Butterfly Valve Filed
- Streetwise Steering Wheel Cover
- Cheap Mudflaps
- Seat Belt Pads
- Pioneer DEH-1300MP Head Unit
- 6" FLI Integrator 6 3-Way Speakers (FRONT)
- Red Brake Calipers
- 2 new tires and wheels realigned
Plus the polish and various other cleaning products. I'd say so far in terms of aesthetic/modification expenditure I'm at about £200 spent on the car (plus the £185 spent fixing it after May's accident). Not bad!
Currently debating whether to go to England or stay in NI for University. Depending on my decision, I may get another car soon or keep and upgrade this for another year. Not sure yet, but left to do, off the top of my head, is:
#36: Re: SamNI96 - 2004 1.1 S Thread (Picture Heavy) Author: SamNI96, Posted: Wed Jun 25, 2014 3:30 pm ---- Hey guys, another update for you all. First though a pic of my car whilst it was ridiculously shiny! Also, a couple of snaps beside a Mazda MX5... I want
That shine!!!!
The MX5!
On to the new stuff! I've got myself a subwoofer. Well, sort of. One of my mates has this mega Hi-Fi speaker set up in his house. It's amazing, honestly. Well he upgraded the sub recently and had this JVC one sitting around. So whilst slightly bored today we decided "F**k it! We will try and wire it into my car!"... In all honesty, we never expected it to work.
Out came the head unit and I know what each of the sockets in the plugs mean, so I decided that since I'm going to upgrade my rear speakers soon anyway, I'd just shove the two wires into the same socket as the rear speakers and, half expecting both the sub and the speakers to go 'boom' and break/short circuit, to my utter surprise the sub kicked in to life and the rear speakers continued to work. The wire isn't very long and I can't be arsed moving the sub so I secured it under the glovebox and my mate and I spent an hour blasting bass at high volume, trying to blow the speakers and sub...
Well, neither missed a beat. Absolutely worked perfectly. No amp, just a straight plug in with the rear left speaker socket and a bit of yellow electrical tape. Now I've a mad Hi-Fi sub and a unique set-up. Hey, it cost me exactly nothing. Care? Nope.
So first of all I got rid of the factory airbox and paper filter in replacement of a huge, £10 twin cone air filter. Honestly it's so loud. Simple to fit and I just cable tied it above the cold air intake. I'll cut the original airbox to fit the cone filter above it when I get around to doing it as I'm sure that'll help.
Ps I've not lost any noticeable power. Infact, i can still hit 85-90mph in fourth gear. That's no difference at all. It just sounds better. Fuel economy has dropped something like 0.21mpg.
Comparison of size vs an iPad 2...
I also got myself some Lexus lights and a fuel cap for £15. The lights were in rough shape, but a power hose, sanding down, 2 cans of £1 poundland gloss black paint (3 coats) and some Halfords clear lacquer (2 coats) soon sorted them out.
As you can see, they really were rough. All flakey, cracked and horrible paint.
Power washed...
Painting...
And finally the lights and fuel cap fitted
Love how they look. Undoubtedly I'll get the stupid comments from people on this site who despise anyone with any car who even remotely goes against the grain of what is 'accepted' on here (lower, nimrods... Generally OEM mods) but stuff them and who cares. I appreciate all feedback, good and bad (bad being 'not my taste' or something) but does my head in when people take such a scything hatred towards aftermarket stuff they don't like whenever it's not their car!!!

Those two connectors at the back of the original head unit are truly a nightmare. Took me a solid 10 minutes just to get them out!

Thanks mate! Yeah my fingers lost about 6 layers of skin on them haha. I nearly cried with joy when they fell out!!!
I've a black GTI spoiler and a new non-sport front bumper (as my one at the minute has cracks and chips galore and is held together with bathroom sealant and cable ties) sitting outside that will be put on relatively soon.
Under my bed I have a CherryBomb backbox which will go on after Christmas. BWAHHHHHHHH!!!!
I'm also going to do a bit of work to the interior. Changing gear knob to red, changing dash bulbs to red and needles to white, red LED footwell lights, red seatbelt pads and some new rear speakers.. Again this will be done after Christmas and everything will be DIY bar the backbox.
I'm also going to spray my rear drums red to go with the front calipers. Since my last update I've put aftermarket clear side indicators in, changed the Lexus rear lights back to ph2 red ones and removed some of the stickers. I also put it through MOT and it needed a fair bit including discs and pads, a tyre etc. The passenger footwell subwoofer has also come out due to breaking
Some more expensive and therefore at the minute unlikely mods include lowering it, bigger wheels and wrapping bits and pieces of the interior like the roof, pillars, dash etc. in alcantara.

Right so, what can be said... Modifications up to the last update on this thread (that still remain) are:
- badgeless front grill sprayed black
- front headlight eyelids
- 15" Wolfrace alloys
- red brake calipers
- debadged and dewipered rear
- clear side indicators
- adidas trainer stickers below 3rd brake light
- Pioneer head unit
- FLI front speakers
- Ripspeed seat belt pads
- Streetwize bulky steering wheel cover
- Huge twin-cone air filter
- 206info stickers
- alloy fuel cap w/ black bolts
The modifications that I've removed are:
- Passenger footwell hi-fi subwoofer
- Rear window stickers
- Black lexus rear lights (just put old ph2 ones in again)
And the new stuff:
- Minideflector wind deflectors
- Front and rear tow hooks sprayed red
- 6x9 Edge parcel shelf speakers (temporary wiring until I get an amp lol)
- Cherrybomb exhaust
That's about it. Hopefully get a couple of things done soon. I've a GTI spoiler and a new (same one just not as ruined) front bumper to go on too and as you can see we've moved house to a smallholding so more room to get stuff done. What do you guys think?
