#1: GTi 180 feeling under powered :( Author: stustu1981, Location: Hucknall, NottinghamPosted: Fri Dec 27, 2013 2:26 pm ---- Hi everyone,
Hope you all had a great christmas. I've got a 2004 GTi 180 which has a custom full stainless exhaust system, k&n panel filter and been mapped by Rstuning. I had the gearbox replaced a couple months back and since I've had the car back it seems to feel very under powered?.?.? The rolling road printout states 170bhp after the map was added but it drives more like a 1.4
Even keeping up with traffic, it seems I have to give her a proper boot.... Does anyone have any idea what could be happening? or if anyone is local in the Nottingham/Hucknall areas could anyone pop by to advise me on it?
These are the first things that popped in my mind. Does the exhaust sound "free"? Would not be the first remapped car to melt its cat.

My 306 S16 was a bad starter when the catalyst was going. Finally it didn't start at all because the cat was all clogged up. Also its performance degraded gradually.
Go under the car and knock the catalyst, if it sounds there is something loose then you are the winner
Though - my 306 has destroyed 2 cats. The 306 cat has two chambers, the engine side was collapsed to dust and clogged the rear one. Second time it had just melted because the camshaft timing wasn't accurate. There were a couple of pieces left inside and one was jammed to the centre pipe side of the cat and clogged exhaust.
On the first time the damage was probably because the catalyst was from a car which was flipped over and it had got a hit from something. The first chamber material was cracked and then collapsed to dust over time. On the 1st time it didn't sound anything special when I gave it a hit. Second time it was obvious.
