#1: Cabin fan stuck on max Author: Zitron, Location: West SussexPosted: Tue Jan 07, 2014 9:05 am ---- Got a 2003 GTI with digital CC. The fan is stuck on max speed and the only thing I'm able to adjust is temperature (luckily). Turning the fan speed down does nothing and even turning off completely doesn't work. The display updates correctly when pressing buttons but nothing happens.
Any ideas? Cheers.

That was gonna be my first thing to try. Nah doesn't look like it. As I said I can turn it off, display goes off and the fan will still be going.

On models with climate it's part of the fan. You have to remove the fan to change the resistor within it. The fan comes out like any other 206 fan, by removing the glovebox. Cheapest fix is a second hand fan unit off eBay and swap as a whole, otherwise new resistor is about 60 last time I looked. You need the fan with 2 connectors for the climate model, not the fan with one. Part is shared with other pugs and also some Citroens.
If you search the forum you'll find my old thread, and some others about it.
30 min job to swap.

#10: Re: Cabin fan stuck on max Author: DREWDEN, Location: huddersfieldPosted: Sun Jan 12, 2014 9:59 am ---- Whilst you are waiting to replace the blower unit, i would reccomend you isolate the power supply to the blower, the electrical system takes a lot of battering to the blower, as in my case the 40amp fuse had welded itself in the holder and not actually blown it. you can remove the 40amp Air Conditioning Fan, fuse 18 in the engine fuse box (bottom right).
You could also then remove the blower unit itself, once removed clean the two connectors going into the motor and out of the motor (2 pin) and (5 pin) especially the 5 pin which operates the speeds of the fan, these have a tendancy for going black and resulting in a bad connection.
Then possibly try the motor again after cleaning the connectors.

New one turned up today unfortunately all the plastic retaining clips were cracked off and the fan was cracked in one spot. Fitted it anyway but made a racket on full speed so getting a new one sent out, probably be monday now though At least I know it's that I guess. Christ it was a pain to twist the old out Now to fix the problem with my clutch Neverending story.

#13: Re: Cabin fan stuck on max Author: DREWDEN, Location: huddersfieldPosted: Thu Jan 16, 2014 10:16 am ---- The fan fins should have 1 or 2 tiny metal clips, that balance the fan, so when the fan is at a fast speed it is running true and not make any noise, pretty much like when a tyre is ballanced.
Check when it arrives, then when fitting you don't knock any off.
Are tested at manufacturers before dispatch.
