#1: HDI GTI Insurance Author: 20Drift, Posted: Sat Jan 11, 2014 4:53 pm ---- Hi guys
Looking to upgrade from my 1.4 to a HDI GTI, but have found my insurance (insurethebox) won't provide me with an online quote for one.
What's weird is that they quoted me for a 2.0 HDI, and also a D TURBO.
Can anyone think of the reason as to why they wouldn't cover a HDI GTI?
The only reason I could think of is that the car produces 110bhp, whereas the 2.0 only produces 90

1.6 HDI GTI is group 22 insurance.
2.0 HDI Dturbo is group 11
2.0 HDI is group 11-17 depending on model.
So i guess thats the issue!
#3: Re: HDI GTI Insurance Author: James3107, Posted: Sun Jan 12, 2014 6:54 am ---- I had this exact same issue. I originally went to buy a HDi GTi but I already was 6 months into my insurance on my previous czar so I wasn't prepared to cancel. They'd insure me no problems on the 2.0hdi, the 1.6 xsi and 1.4 hdi but wouldn't touch the hdi gti. They said it was because it said GTi. Ridiculous.
#4: Re: HDI GTI Insurance Author: doski, Location: WarwickshirePosted: Sun Jan 12, 2014 7:06 am ---- get a 2.0 hdi and remap

Got the insurers looking into it now - they said you'd need a minimum of 3 years NCD before they touch it, however they're going to ask the underwriters if they'd cover me
#6: Re: HDI GTI Insurance Author: 2Oh!6, Location: GloucesterPosted: Sun Jan 12, 2014 7:38 am ---- 3 years for a HDi GTi? They aren't even close to being powerful cars. When I was thinking of getting a Cupra R 225 they said I'd need 2. If they've referred you to underwriting even if they'll cover you it'll cost a bomb.
Either way, this is a blessing in disguise as they are crap engines.
#7: Re: HDI GTI Insurance Author: James3107, Posted: Sun Jan 12, 2014 8:05 am ---- That's ridiculous! I've got 2 ncb and with flux direct I can get insured on some hot hatches, but Endlseigh who i'm with now are really reluctant to amend cars.
#8: Re: HDI GTI Insurance Author: LeeThr, Location: North West WalesPosted: Sun Jan 12, 2014 8:28 am ---- Its because of the GTi badge, makes more of a target for thiefs making them more of a risk to insure hence the higher premiums etc.
find a 1.6 hdi in not GTi spec (not actually 100% sure if they did in the 206) and you should be ok.

I think that was only in the 307, pretty sure 206 1.6 were all gti's.

You can often get a better deal by cutting out the middle man. I have never really seen the point in paying a 3rd party to sort my insurance out. You rarely get any extra benefit from using a broker.

They aren't, you get Sport and Quiksilver models too.

Really? Wouldn't mind one of those.. Do they still have all the issues of the gti?

Aye, GTi / Sport / Quiksilver is just a trim level on the 1.6 HDi models.
#14: Re: HDI GTI Insurance Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Mon Jan 13, 2014 6:14 am ---- I suspect the suspension might not quite be the same as GTi on the Sport models. More XSi spec...so slightly narrower torsion bars and anti roll bars.
#15: Re: HDI GTI Insurance Author: Lecktorious, Location: ScotlandPosted: Mon Jan 13, 2014 8:08 am ---- Just checked ServiceBox. My QS had 19.5mm TB's and a 19mm ARB. Don't have a GTi HDi specific VIN, but searching by model the above at least appears to be the same.
If anyone wants to volunteer their VIN for a GTi HDi I'll be able to check and see if the technical specs are the same.
