What is this pipe and is this a problem?

#1: What is this pipe and is this a problem? Author: Werdnal, Location: Cornwall, UK PostPosted: Sat Jan 18, 2014 11:34 am

Notice a few days ago I had some black polythene type material hanging under the front of the engine bay on passenger side. Thinking I'd picked up some rubbish along the road, I tried to pull it out but it was stuck firm. Finally got around to having a proper look today, and it seems it is actually a plastic sleeve that was covering a pipe/duct under the car. Its front passenger side, just behind the bumper, and the duct is about 2-3" dia, soft spongy material with a spiral wire reinforcing. Obviously without the cover, this duct is porous, and due to its location, will be straight in the path of spray and puddles!

Any idea what this is, and will the fact that the polythene sleeve has perished cause any problems please?

It's the air intake pipe. Connects under the air box and up into the wing.

Thanks

So obviously not good to be sucking in water then!

Will it fit a 2.0HDi 52 reg? Seen one on eBay but says its for the petrol engine. Is yours new or used?

Going to take mine off tomorrow, dry it out and and wrap some polythene around it for a short-term until I get one. With all the rain, don't want to suck in too much water!

What do you want for it?

I think they are all the same for the 206's. I'll get a picture of it. It's not new but the car is looked after so is in decent condition. I'll check it over and get some photos.
It's not worth anything really so as long as the postage is cheap (it will be) I only want £10 for it delivered.

Spotted this. Slight wear on the plastic cover. Nothing major though and looks like it will have come from rubbing the arch liner.

Thanks for reply and photos. Hubby been under car today and had a better look, and pipe itself is good, its just the sleeve thats split on mine. He has dried it off and taped up with duct tape that is probably stronger than the material its made of. Think we will leave it for now and see how mine goes. If they are all the same on all 206's we have a scrappy 5 minutes up the road that is full of 206's, so could pick up one there. Thanks again for your trouble posting the photos etc, but until we had a proper look today, didn't know we could salvage mine.
