Electric window jammed.
-> 206 Problems

2 things before I start, I did search, and also wasn't sure whether to stick this in the Problems or How To section.

Anyway Smile

I got to work this morning and my driver side window was jammed, about an inch closed, so wide open.

I took it to the local garage on my lunch and he said he's do the window up and secure it, due to the amount of rain we have had recently I was ok paying the £33

He rang me up after to quote me a price for parts etc to fix the window, now I've searched ebay for the 'resistor' that he said needs replacing, and they average out to about £15, so why he wants to charge me £200 before labour and VAT is beyond me.

So I guess my question(s) are

Are all electric window resistors the same? pre/multu 3dr/5dr etc? most of the ones on ebay just state 01-04 etc but not 3dr/5dr any advice would be great.

Also, is it an easy job to fix? I've done small jobs on my own like fitting subs/speakers/stereos, lights, door panels, seats, air bags (I guess Haynes would put 1 or 2 spanners next to the jobs I can do Cool )

As I said before, any help and advice would be great, sorry for the essay Smile

Dead easy, buy the complete motor and rail from a car being broken.
To fit it,
Take your doorcard off
Remove sound proofing
Remove window by pushing in the white clips
Drill rivits out using drill
Remove mechanism
Put new mechanism in place securing it with nuts and bolts
Put window back in
Test it!!
Put soundproofing back on
Put doorcard back on
Job done
Estimated time 45 mins!

Thanks for that mate.

Just so we're clear, all resistors are the same? doesn't matter about year or model?

The window lifter motors differ at least between 3dr and 5dr models.. Different size doors so the mechanism is a tad different also.
