Led wiring

Hi guys,

Just wired a single strip of LED's into a 2 way switch and then out into my ashtray light connection's , there's a problem when i turn the LED's on via the switch it turns my right side light off lol any ideas?

I would just use the power from the 12v cigarette lighter to power the LED's

Not really without seeing exactly how you wired stuff...

But if you cut the +12V line to your right sidelight, connected the feed to the common terminal and the sidelight to one of the switch terminals and the LED to the other switch terminal, that would be the exact behaviour you'd get - depending on switch position you'd get EITHER the sidelight OR the LED on, never both at the same time.

For the switch to be able to turn on/off the LED whenever the sidelight is on and keeping the sidelight on, don't cut the line, instead tap into it, and connect the tap line to the common terminal on the switch and LED+ to either of the 2 switch terminals. Isolate the other switch terminal so not to have a uninsulated tab at +12V when you have sidelighs on and LED off.
(or just use a simple 2 terminal on/off switch instead.)

All i have done with mine is run both LED Strips to my cigarette lighter wiring, nice little touch and its pretty cool that they will turn on and off with your headlights.
