#1: Break lights won't go off!!! Author: Sleeky, Posted: Mon Feb 10, 2014 1:34 pm ---- Hi Guys
I have a 1.4 206. On the way back from work, i was stopped by the popo and they told me that my break lights are faulty because you couldn't tell if i was breaking or not. So i came home and researched this problem and the first solution was the switch become loose or fallen out of its place.
So with tremendous effort, i removed the glovebox and realised that the sensor had snapped out of its place so i bought a new one and popped it in. so i start the engine and drive out of the driveway and my break lights are still staying on for some bloody reason!!
all lights are working and indicators are working. i recently changed my left headlight bulb and its a tad bit brighter than the one on the right but that was last month. The car was made in 2006. I would like to get back on the road as soon as possible because I have uni and work.
Any help will be greatly appreciated

Unplugging the switch should extinguish the lights.... if not you have a short in the system

If I have all the lights turned off and I brake the rear top break light comes on but the left and right break lights do not turn on. really hard to see when you have a spoiler but if I have all the lights on including headlight the break lights stay permanently on even without breaking.
If I do press the break the lights get 10% brighter but it is really hard to tell because they're already at 90%.

Have you got the right bulbs in and are they in the right way round?

The lights were fine before, the only light I changed was the front left (passenger) headlight which was last month but it was working fine. I only replaced the left side as it went out but didn't replace the right headlight as it was still working. The left headlight is 20% brighter than the right headlight.
I used 12v 55w Halfords Advanced high performance headlight bulb 477ULB H7 to replace the left headlight.

#11: Re: Break lights won't go off!!! Author: Sleeky, Posted: Wed Feb 12, 2014 6:29 am ---- Can someone please tell me where the earth cables are so I can clean them.
#12: Re: Break lights won't go off!!! Author: DREWDEN, Location: huddersfieldPosted: Wed Feb 12, 2014 10:44 am ---- Earth cables to check are behind both headlights, and one behind the rear LH tail light.
Seems odd that the top brake light should work with the lights off, and the left rear brake does not, as that works on the same circuit, (fuse).
Maybe worth trying a bsi reset after cleaning the earths.

#14: Re: Break lights won't go off!!! Author: Sleeky, Posted: Thu Feb 13, 2014 1:38 pm ---- Got the lights fixed today. The problem was that Previous owner fitted a single filament bulbs in both rear brake lights which caused the problem. They needed to be double filament. Thank you everyone for your help. Greatly appreciated
