Alarm going off after disconnecting the live terminal?

#1: Alarm going off after disconnecting the live terminal? Author: billo3000, Location: Leicestershire PostPosted: Fri Feb 14, 2014 6:31 pm
    ----
Hi there just a quickie.
Just been out to disconnect my battery as my headlights off at the minute and don't want to fry any electrics with this weather but anyway I disconnected the live terminal as its quick release with the car locked and the alarm went off so put it back on and it went full volume but the key wouldn't work to unlock the car and turn off the alarm so had to remove both terminals.
So how do I get my central locking to work again tomorrow when I reconnect the battery? And will the alarm start goin mad again when i reconnect it? Its an 03 mk1 gti btw if that makes any difference. Just never encountered anything like this before. I did do a forum search but couldn't find an exact remedy or figure out exactly what to search for.
Key worked perfectly fine before removing the battery :S
Cheers
Scott

Did you allow the BSI to shut down correctly?

**ATTENTION** How to Disconnect the Battery Safely

Multiplexed Electrical System
When disconnecting the battery to do electrics, or just to change it, you need to follow this guide. Failure to do this could result in a £600 bill from Peugeot!
* Put down the drivers window.
* Pop and Open the bonnet. Shut ALL DOORS apart from the bonnet.
* Leave the car for at least 3 minutes. This allows the BSI to shut down and go to "sleep."
* Disconnect the clamps on the battery, and change/do electrics/whatever you are planning to do.

* When reconnecting, reattach the clamps on the battery. Don't shut the bonnet yet. Leave the car for a few more minutes. This allows the car to settle.
* Lean through the drivers window, and turn the sidelights on. (Don't open the door.)
* This is called a "Soft Start" for the BSI.
* Let the car finish thinking about everything, and check all the systems etc.
* Start the car.
If you can't get the window down, ask a friend/partner to sit in the car. tell them not to touch anything or open the door until you tell them.

You may have to sync the remotes again
HOW TO - Reprogram your remote plip key wrote:
Multi-plexed keys.

206 PLIP PROGRAMMING SYNCHRONISATION—BSI

1. Insert the Ignition Key.

2. Press the small Black button.

3. Switch the Ignition ON

4. Keep the lock button pressed for 10 seconds.

5. Release lock button , switch ignition OFF and remove key.

6. Close all doors and press the lock button 2 times.

NOTE : If PLIPS still do not work, start the vehicle and then turn OFF. Open and close the door, and check PLIP again.

You could possibly disconnect the alarm to silence it, or stick hold a cloth over it to dull the noise. Not sure exactly where the siren is, but think it's behind the battery. Someone will be able to give you the exact location

You should always disconnect the negative lead first as a matter of safety. The quick release is there for the Peugeot BBQ models.

Open the door with the key and start the car. All will be fine.

This is why its best to ask BEFORE messing around on the electrical system with a car that has a battery back up / anti tamper alarm system fitted.
