#1: Type of power steering liquid Author: Carpboy, Posted: Wed Mar 05, 2014 1:10 pm ---- Hi guys
I have a 1.4 06 peugeot 206.
The power steering liquid level has come to an all time low. Could you advise me what type of power steering liquid I need and where would be the best place to get it from?
Thanks

#3: Re: Type of power steering liquid Author: Carpboy, Posted: Wed Mar 05, 2014 1:32 pm ---- Why would you assume a leak? It's due a service, I just assumed it needed filling.
#4: Re: Type of power steering liquid Author: Tolkienfan001, Location: SpaldingPosted: Wed Mar 05, 2014 1:34 pm ---- How else did you think the level was low?
#5: Re: Type of power steering liquid Author: Carpboy, Posted: Wed Mar 05, 2014 1:36 pm ---- Good point, any advice?
#6: Re: Type of power steering liquid Author: 20Drift, Posted: Wed Mar 05, 2014 1:37 pm ---- Check the hoses coming from the reservoir for any liquid, or see if you can find any staining
#7: Re: Type of power steering liquid Author: Tolkienfan001, Location: SpaldingPosted: Wed Mar 05, 2014 1:38 pm ---- Iirc you need ATF fluid for 206 power steering?
#8: Re: Type of power steering liquid Author: Carpboy, Posted: Wed Mar 05, 2014 1:41 pm ---- Can't see any leakage, the power steering suddenly stopped working when I was parking it. So I looked at the levels and it was near gone.

Sounds like you have a leak somewhere then

So what type of liquid can I use, so I can at least get it moving.

Why would it suddenly leak? Shall I call the rac? Or is there something I can check? It looks like it's coming from the front of the car

It depends on how confident you feel repairing / replacing parts and how quickly you need the car, A garage might take a few days to fix it.

Have a look under the front, you will have a bar (tie rod) with a rubber boot near the centre of the car, if it's leaking from the boot your seal has gone. I've never tried to fix this fault before though. It's normally a new steering rack. You might be lucky and either the feed or return pipes might have a split in them. The splits can be very hard to see sometimes. Clean everything first and recheck before you take it to a garage. You don't want them ripping you off with labour charges if it's only a pipe
