#1: engine light and cut out Author: TheWoLF, Posted: Sat Mar 08, 2014 2:04 pm ---- Hello, today on my way home I have experienced a problem with my 206 1.4 petrol, 1999.
I was accelerating on 5th gear and the speed was approx 50mph and suddenly the car cuts out for 2 seconds and the engine light appears on the dash at that time. Then the light disappears and the car is going like nothing happened.
P.S. and more thing, about a minute before that, when I was on the uphill slope, also accelerating, the red handbrake light appeared for couple of seconds, blinked a couple of times and disappeared.
Any ideas what it might be?
#2: Re: engine light and cut out Author: Timon2210, Location: PalestinePosted: Sat Mar 08, 2014 2:26 pm ---- As for the first problem,many reasons can cause this,so it's hard to tell what is the problem,so it's better to wait,till you have the EML light on ,so you can have a fault code reading.
About the second problem,your brakes need to be checked,so check the front,if they are good,check the rear ones,as it means that the brake fluid is going low,but NEVER add or refill,unless you got new brakes and discs all over.

I'm not sure on the above comment regarding not topping up brake fluid without new discs and pads. If it's low I would add fluid, just make sure you use the same fluid as what's already in the system, though I think dot 5.1 is cross compatible. If the level is low I'd be looking for leaks as a car should NEVER consume brake fluid.
#4: Re: engine light and cut out Author: Timon2210, Location: PalestinePosted: Sat Mar 08, 2014 3:12 pm ---- Car Never Consume brake fluid,but when the pads get thinner,and discs too,there will be space,and it's filled with brake fluid instead,which explains the low level,but when new ones fitted,and there is no leaks in the system,the level will be back to normal level.
BUT if you top the brake fluid without checking,and then have new discs or pads,you will have the oil pressured in the tank,and it might explode and cause a mess.

Brake fluid strips paint so makes a real mess if you don't notice.

I'd say if this is the case the level was either low to start with or your brakes are in a shocking condition.

About the brakes, the front ones and back ones are not new, but ok. And yeah, the level of brake fluid is lower than it supposed to be, but not critical. So it just needs a small top up.
I will post her tomorrow about the eml. And again, big thanks for all your replies.
