#1: Patchy Project Author: EdCherry, Location: Wiltshire PostPosted: Wed Apr 07, 2010 6:23 pm

Quick insight to the quickly progressing (well it is now) car that myself and CD-206GTi own.

This is how we got it, had to get it back together before we could move it so that was first on the order.

Where it has lived for much of its life since we got it

Got some bits for it

Got the original engine running after being in pieces for 8 years, although it was only on 2 cylinders, headgasket gone, so out it came...

Replacement engine in

Kind of what it looks like

Shiny s**t

Running

In its new home

After the floorpan has been finished, not the best picture but will get some better ones soon

Progressing quiet quickly now i've got some time off, its indoors and its got a bit of money to be splashed on it.

Rust on a pug unlucky? Not really they all rust.

Pudding stirrer for a gearstick? not likely, no play in it on anything ive engineered on it, gearbox side however there is play currently but then again you'd expect that on a 24 year old gearbox which looks pretty darn knackered.

Off for a respray on the 8th of may so final mocking up, prepping and everything out before then. Sure chris will put some more pictures up soon as im a bit busy currently.

Actually mate, i have personally found that they dont rust like yours Wink
Yes they have the occasional scab here and there, but heck what car doesnt

And by pudding stirrer, i dont mean the play, i mean the shear size of it, and how far you have to go forward and backwards to get into gear Wink

This car wasn't badly rusted, but rather do a half assed bodged repair like many we went all out.

From 3rd to 4th there is about 120-130mm, I didn't just stick a long shaft on there.

Rear beam will be off tomorrow again ready for the underseal and for the new mounting bush' to go on.

Subframe will be off tomorrow so we can clean it wednesday.

Windscreen and cage back in for wednesday too, and hopefully from friday onwards its moving back towards get all the mechnical bits back on the car.

#34: Re: Patchy Project Author: EdCherry, Location: Wiltshire PostPosted: Thu May 13, 2010 5:14 pm

This is how it looks as of today.

Rear screen bonded back in, front screen with top tint on (although think I will need a bit bigger than a 2.5 inch tint!) and rear fixed windows in.

Cage went in yesterday, just need to shorten one or two bolts to neaten things up and finish the rear spreaders underneath.

Did you sort out the brake line to the bias in the end?
They all pretty much fitted now?

#41: Re: Patchy Project Author: EdCherry, Location: Wiltshire PostPosted: Tue Aug 03, 2010 4:03 pm

Front Right needs some clips before I finish bending it into position.

Bias all fitted, need to make some more brake lines thursday for the rear beam and then everything is done.

Right well as I said took the brakes off Fudge who is looking a bit sorry for himself stored away for so long.

Anyway got over to the workshop to fit them, been supplied base model fitting kits twice now for them, proper kit should be with me monday.

Then I got on with flaring some more brake lines and shaping them up a bit

Today I was going to put the engine, gearbox and driveshafts back in but after clearing the mess of a workshop up slightly decided I would go drinking earlier so came home.

Started to put the engine in today, was going to drop engine in from the top to the floor, bolt gearbox on and lift them up again. didn't really work very well so went back to my old way, bolt them together and lift them both in with a bit of careful movement.

Managed to get them in without too much hassle, one or two small scrapes, nothing that can be seen luckily.

Bolted in the driveshafts, clutch cable on and tested the clutch was working.

Went on to spanner check the entire from end, nice and tight bar the front hub nuts which still need torquing.

Went to get on with trying to take the old drum apart to get some parts out of it. Anthony tried his best to get it off but when 20 tons wouldn't remove the stub pin he swapped the arms. Got all the parts I need but unfortunatly the back plate that ive been sent is for the drivers side not passenger. If I had a stepper drill on me I would have modified it there and then, but unfortunatly didn't so it wont be back on 4 wheels this weekend.

So the car was like this, and the opportunity came to move the car. I always said the car would drive out of this workshop, so thats what we did and onto the trailer after changing the tyres so we could get some pressure in them.

Drove it onto the trailer, were it took a little journey to its temporary new home.

#57: Re: Patchy Project Author: EdCherry, Location: Wiltshire PostPosted: Sun Sep 12, 2010 5:13 am

Friday I finally started working on it again, started decoding some loom bits and bobs, welded the blow in the exhaust up (really badly oops!) and made some bits ready to TIG for the coolant system.

Finally handed the key back for the workshop yesterday after clearing it out after the PCAD at Combe.

Shakedown at Llandow or some sort of airfield, nothing big just to get the car bedded in and sort some teething problems.

Then over the winter a well earned break from the car to concertrate on my honours year and some hooning as of march maybe?

Right some updates then.

Finally finished the column.

Then on to fitting the doors.

Lots of coursework to be done all jan so had to get a move on as a deadline was coming for the car moving out.

Bit more work done some quick shots that I managed to get while working on it.

^^ My snazzy citroen visa gti rimmage with my large supply of free slicks.

And finally on to the trailer.

On the drive

Chris should be posting some more pictures, didn't really think to pickup the camera much while working.

Looking back at the photo's it looks like I got f*** all done since tuesday but its all the small bits that aren't worth posting pictures about or double checking things.

Gave it a quick blast and it felt great, can't wait to get in it for real, strapped in and out on the circuit. Bring on testing!

Well it was either dampers or buy my own corner weights, unfortunately we had to go for dampers.

Could do your corner weights, but it would cost you too much to be worth it. Pulled in to many favours recently Sad

Got all the dampers back just after christmas so a couple of weekends ago I fitted it all back up and re adjusted the rear ride height. Back on 4 wheels with 4 dampers and shiny new TB's was a nice achievement to do after a long time coming together.

Then last weekend I had a spare couple of hours so went to do some trimming on carbon for a couple of cars and got involved doing the door cards for this one. Typical had run out of rivnuts so Didn't finish fixing it in.

Slowly getting there. I also re did the thermostat housing and installed that as well as change a couple other bits and pieces.
