#1: Battery dies when turning key Author: nemesislee, Location: stokePosted: Wed Mar 19, 2014 8:04 am ---- Ok this one is confusing me,
open the car using central locking everything is fine. go to turn the car on lights come on then as soon as i go to start the car lights all go dead and nothing not even a flutter of ignition.
weird thing is is that i opened my bonnet and could not see anything wrong so i thumped my battery is anger :). thus doing this the central locking started to work again.
i close the bonnet and think wahey ive fixed it, ..... it happens again :s
so i do the same again open the bonnet thump the battery but this time leave it open until i try to start the car which works this time
but it keeps happening i did notice that i have a whirring noise when revving but thought this was sue to spraying it with belt slip spray.
and ideas would be great
thanks

Also, check your earth strap to gearbox, as these are known to perish over a while

Well since the Earth lead is loose, then it's the cause of the problem,as when you try to start the car, there is a heavy load on the battery, and the (+) and (-) terminals,so if you have a loose one, that means poor connection, and you will have a very hot lead which is something dangerous and risky to have, and can cause serious damage to your car ECU and BSI,so make sure you tight it well.

Get a new earth lead, or change the connector on the end to fit your battery
