#1: Engine rev problems after warm start Author: majormajor, Posted: Sun Apr 06, 2014 1:56 pm ---- Dear 206 experts,
Here's a problem that has been bugging me for a while with my otherwise perfectly functioning Peugeot 206 (W reg, 1.4i petrol engine, about 56k miles on the clock).
When I start the engine from cold, the car behaves itself and everything is as it should be. Engine revs is proportional to how much I press the accelerator, idle rev is normal, the car runs perfectly smoothly. However, if I turn off the engine for a few minutes (for example, I stop to fill up with petrol) and then re-start it, something weird happens. To start with the idle rev is normal (or maybe a bit too high but not excessively), but as soon as I rev up the engine to something like 2000 rpm, the revs gets stuck there and only decreases very gradually. The car "drives itself" and there seems to be a power surge: the throttle response becomes very sharp. Then, gradually within a few minutes everything goes back to normal again.
As I tend to do long trips mostly, the problem is not something I can't live with, but it can get annoying.
One of my colleagues - who happens to have an identical model - suggested I check the idle valve. I took it out and cleaned it out thoroughly but it made no difference.
If any of you have any suggestions, please could you share your thought with me.

Also I had one play up similar due to a faulty temp sensor.
