Hi just picked up a 2003 206 1.4 'look'
discovered it does have a few issues while driving it home
1. knocking both front sides im hoping just drop links
2. engine light came on after about 2 miles down the road but hasnt had any effect on the car?
3. while driving the car you can hear a belt noise which gets worse the higher the revs, any ideas what this could be? it does it whether stationary or moving both in and out of gear.
Thanks guys

The belt nosie your hearing is probably the aux belt, cam belt or even the aux pump. See if you can find out when it last had any of the belts changed if at all, ofcourse depending on the mileage.

Engine light could of been anything, stick it on a PP2000 to find out the answer would be the best option instead of hunting for a million and one problems. Many users on here have access to one or find a local garage who does.

The knocking could be a variety of things, No point me second guessing.
Although can it be felt through the sterring wheel?

knocking could be many things, best way is to get under and look at the condition of the bushes, (arb, wishbone etc) then check for play with a long bar or similar

a simple obd reader will shed light on the eml light.

belt sound could be tensioner or pully/roller on aux belt or cambelt, best way to find out what one is to remove aux belt and start car (if sound stays its something to with cambelt) .
if its not tensioner etc next is one of the accessories eg alternator

Ok cheers guys, it was his wife's car and he said the belt was definately done 1.5/2 years ago. The car is on 88k
Another couple of things to mention, went to check the oil level and the dipstick is pretty much non existent is obviously snapped off at some point. I'm pretty sure it's not stuck in there though, should I just buy a new one and hope it hasn't?
Also you can hear the clutch pedal squeak when it's let up, I pressume something's just dry?

Just buy a replacement so you can read the oil level properly, try and buy one with a metal end instead of the plastic tip. I wouldn't worry to much about the snapped off bit.
The squeaky pedal is a common thing, and it's something I cant seem to shift in my car, except mines the brake pedal. I've tried a little bit of grease on the joints and WD40 with no luck, got used to now so don't even notice anymore.

Yeah the clutch squeak seems common, happened on both of my 206's and even the 207 I learned in

So nothing to worry about? I just want to get the squeal sorted first, it does t seem to do it once warm if that's any more of a clue? I only bought it for work because I do t fancy driving my rallye every day it's too nice for that! Haha
Just wondered how reliable these are? What are the engines good for roughly in terms of mileage
