Gear Box - Speed restriction
-> 206 Problems

#1: Gear Box - Speed restriction Author: Monty1980 PostPosted: Wed Apr 09, 2014 12:24 pm

Hi,

I have an automatic 2005 Peugeot.

A few weeks ago it started to play up. When cruising at around 50 miles/h there would be a sudden loss of power, like if the was car stalling. The car would not switch off and it was just a second, but after this some kind of speed restriction would come in and it felt like you could not go over the 3rd gear or so.

We took the car to a specialist in automatic gears and they told us that it's the gear box, something it's wrong with it and the mechanism that comes on when the roads are icy, comes on for no reason hence restricting the speed/gear switching.

We have been told we need to spend £1200+VAT to replace the gear box.

But the gears are working fine when this speed restriction is not on and we only paid the car £2.7K a year ago! So frustrating.

Any advice?

The AL4 gearbox fitted to the auto 206 is total S***E

Either find another autobox specialist OR a French car specialist.

OR

Find someone with Peugeot Planet.
