I'be been quoted by a garage to fit my new axle at a cost of 200-250. Does this seem reasonable or am I being ripped off? I know It a relatively big job that takes quite a bit of time (6 hours???)

I worked It out to be;

£250 / 6 = £41 hr

Im going to say its less, more like 4 hours, but I havent checked the times so I cant confirm.

£41 per hour isnt too bad tbh

In my opinion, fitting the rear axle is a 10 minute job, setting up the rear brakes and handbrake cable is were most of the time is going to be spent.
I would say that 4 hours to do the job is a lot of time, i would consider getting more quotes, i think 2 hours would be more reasonable and that includes coffee brakes Smile

having done my axle myself and running into problems i would say 6 hours is reasonable. However i would still shop around for quotes

do it yourself its real easy

I did it a few weeks ago

Crusty brake pipes. Rusty exhaust
All sorts of things they might find to slow them down.

Cheers for the response, it is a '99 reg so the chances of something being siezed is more than likely.

I did consider doing it myself but it something were to gone wrong, i'd either have to walk a good few hours to get parts or get an axleless car to a garage so fix the mess.

i'll ring round a few places and get some quotes.

good news is the axle comes already lowered, bonus in adjusting the torsion bar after its fitted Very Happy
