I am wanting to remove the badges from the rear hatch tailgate so I can machine polish my car properly.
Does anyone know if there is some sort of template, measurements or guide I can use in order to place the new badges in their correct position, just like factory spec?

My 2 cents would be to apply masking tape to the underside of the boot near to the edges (horizontal and vertically on the right hand side) in line with GTI badge, then take a measurement from say the top right dot of the 'i' and also mark up where it corresponds with the masking tape on the underside.
Then when you go to put the badge back on using the markings from the masking tape as a starting point and measure back across horizontally and vertically.
Providing when you take the measurements you make sure the ruler is at the correct angle, 90 & 180 degrees you shouldn't have a problem. Even use a small spirit level to make sure and I recommend using a solid straight edge as apposed to a flimsy measuring tape.
A second set of hands may make it a lot easier to do too.
