My 206 hesitates (strange one)
-> 206 Problems

#1: My 206 hesitates (strange one) Author: hamed206, Location: Egypt PostPosted: Sun May 25, 2014 5:07 pm

Car started to hesitate when accelerating on high and low speeds. And on high and low RPMs. Some times it cut out and won't start when hot until you leave it for 10 minutes (but cut out happens rarely). The engine management light rarelycome on. Sometimes there is also a white smoke from the exhaust when pushing the pedal and making high rev while the car is stopping.

I also have rough idle when car is stationery.

My 206 is 1.4 <2000. I have experienced many troubles with it before, but this one sounds a little bit different. I don't want to jump to ECU and suspect it!

There is also another problem and I don't know if I should link it to this performance problem or not. Car overheats sometimes. I had my weak coolant fan replaced, as well as the resistant but the problem is persisting!

Notes:
My fuel pump is new
My coil pack is new

Any idea?

Cheers.

Faulty Coil Pack?...... I know you say the Coil Pack is new but, mine was doing all of the above, changed the Coil and it was fine. But I suppose it could be a few things, Injectors? I was also told it could be the Throttle Potentiometer.

After some inspection, we found the coil extensions with signs of wear and one of them is cracked.

Also the spark plugs have carbon deposits on it.

Will get a new set of extensions + new spark plugs tomorrow.

Got the spark plugs and the coil extensions changed today, the performance (acceleration) is not good at all. But the hesitation is reduced (I think). I still need to test the car on road and give it another chance before judge.

Something I forgot to mention, the technician diagnosed the old spark plugs and found a carbon deposit on them, could this be an indication of something? Is this related to my problem?

I have identified an issue that is the reason fro my problem. It sounds that the air/fuel mixture is running rich with more fuel in the system, that's why the spark plugs have carbon deposits. I'm also noting an excess fuel consumption.

My mechanic suggested to change the temp sender switch (the green one). That sensor which tells the ECU the temp of the engine so the ECU adjust the mixture depend on these information. When we took off the sensor we found it a little bit wearied with some (white) deposits on it. I got a new one for about 20.8$. But unfortunately the problem is still persisting and the car is consuming fuel.

I'm suspecting the Oxygen sensor to be the reason for all of this. That is because mine is an aftermarket one! I replaced it 5 yrs ago. I placed NGK which is more expensive than the OEM, but I can't confirm that Oxygen (Lambda) sensor is the reason.

The most problem with 206 is that the root cause remains always hidden and you have to change many thing to get such problem fixed. ECU diagnosis don't tell you any useful thing in the old 206 models (non-multiplex).

I'm a 206 rider since 1999, so I have sometimes to fix issues myself! and think with my mechanic Surprised

Anyway I feel that I'm a lone in this forum! And talking to myself Rolling Eyes
