Fan belt problem.
-> 206 Problems

#1: Fan belt problem. Author: le0n2014 PostPosted: Sat May 31, 2014 8:09 am

I have replaced the head gasket recently on my car and ever since the fan belt has been squeeling. It seems to be catching under the steering pump housing above the pulley and its freyiing the side of the belt, so I have to have the belt 1 notch over to prevent it. I think its because of this that I have a noise coming from 1 of the chain roller bearings too.

Anyone else had this problem at all?

Leon

Morning,

1st thing that comes to my mind is did you use the right belt? Or was it the same as the old one?

Also might be useful to say what engine this is on, i presume either the 1.1, 1.4 or 1.6L ?

Regards, Richard.

I swapped mine for 1 off of a spares/repairs 206 1.1 i have in my garden, because it was in better condition. Same belts aren't they? Also even with the old 1 on it whined.

Forgot to add mines a 1.4 engine

Belts will squeal if put on the wrong way round. Shouldn't be catching though, maybe the tensioner is duff.

Ive had the tensioner off because I had to replace it so thats ok, it seems to be comin from the cam belt not the fan belt lol. Ive got a vid of how it sounds but not sure how to post it lol i'm uploading it to youtube now will post when done.

Ive read it could be the cambelt thats too tight?

edit: heres the video. Any thoughts?

Could be the belt rubbing on the cover.
