206 cylinder head gasket needs replacing.
-> 206 Problems

#1: 206 cylinder head gasket needs replacing. Author: duopkik, Location: preston PostPosted: Tue Jul 08, 2014 7:54 am
    ----
After taking my car to the garage this morning for a service, they rang back later to say that the cylinder head gasket needs replacing. The car is a 1.4 from 2003 and has only done 45,000 miles. They haven't charged me which was good of them but at £450 it seems a little steep.

My friend says that it will need the head skimmed and valves re-seated and will also need a new belt and tensioner as well if replacing the head gasket.

Does this all sound ok?

If there going to send it away to be pressure tested and skimmed then expect that to be about £60-£100 of the cost.

The book time is about 6 hours if the above is true. Otherwise its a 4 hour job.
By the time you have a new cambelt kit and water pump, manifold gakets, oil and filter. Anti freeze, headgasket, headbolts it all adds up.

Whats the garages hourly labour rate?

What reason does it need to be changed? If its oil it will only need a clean or skim
