#1: catalytic converter problems Author: Louth888 PostPosted: Tue Jul 22, 2014 2:52 pm

Hi.

Having a few problems with my 206 1.6 sport (2006 plate) and was hoping to tap into a few brains.

Drove around 20 minutes this morning without any hitches, left the car for ten mins (engine off) went in a friends house and when i tried to leave the car basically kept stalling when in drive (automatic)

I tried 2/3 times and the sounds and juddering were getting worse and the catalytic converter warning came up aswell as the orange engine symbol on the dash.

The handbrake was on and it was in park.

The car has 74000 miles on, 3000 of which have been mine without any trouble apart from a minor brake fluid leak (which was repaired)

The fluids have all been topped up around 6 weeks ago by the mechanic who fixed my brake fuild leak.

Just wondering if anybody has any possible remedies? or an opion on whether the converter needs fixing or if possible reparing plus rough costs just as a guide?

Much appreciated.

Liam

If you mean ANTIPOLLUTION FAULT come up on the display that is just a generic grab your attention warning to say you need to plug a code reader in & read the fault codes.

No it actually says .."catalytic converter error" . I've done some googling and have heard the anti pollution fault mentioned but it's not something I've seen. Thanks anyway

Code reader time.
The error could be coming up for another reason like over fuelling, which could in turn be caused by something like the coilpack on it's way out. By the raw fuel going into the cat, it's slowly eating itself and the warning is there to stop you doing expensive damage.

Maybe , I have really basic AA cover free with the bank (which I think I will upgrade) which only allows for them to tow me home or to a local garage .just trying to find out likely costs before I head to a garage I can't afford at the minute.

The cars nice and safe on a friends drive here it broke down luckily, so if it's a major problem I could leave it until I get the funds together..
