Wheel Hight Problem after jacking up rear : (

#1: Wheel Hight Problem after jacking up rear : ( Author: MattBurrows PostPosted: Sat Jul 26, 2014 2:33 pm

Hi

I jacked up the rear left wheel so i could get to my exhaust silencer to fit a bracket.

when jacking up the car, the wheel stayed on the ground while the body lifted.

when i removed the jack the wheel stayed in its new position (so now the left rear of the car is in the air)

what could have caused this? can i fix it myself?

thanks

Mine does this and as soon as you drive off it drops back into position. I dont believe its anything to be concerned about

yes i let the hand brake off (after lowering the jack)...

no the wheel has not gone back to its normal position after driving around
(the rear left of my car is higher than everything else)...

i cant find this issue in resolved issues section.

i need to know if there is anything i can do.

Maybe a tooth has slipped in the mating of the torsion bar (or even the rear ARB) when you jacked-it up and stressed it?

Highly unlikely the tooth has slipped in the torsion bar area unless it is seriously corroded. Could it possibly be that air has got into the damper some how, dodgy damper. Have you tried rocking the hell out of it to see if it settles??

Pile some weight into the left rear passenger seat (maybe the boot as well for good measure) then either drive around a bit or rock it.

And just a real quick check (suprising what can be missed in a panic!) has the bracket/silencer interfered in any way with the ARB/Torsion Bar? Even just being in contact somehow?

yeah thanks...

it has sorted itself out a bit (but not 100%) after some intense rocking around.

I think i'm gonna chuck a couple of bags of cement in the left side of the boot and see what happens.

It's disconcerting, because if i did ever need to take the wheel off, i wouldn't be able too as no matter how high i jacked the car up, the wheel would still be on the floor
