Accelerator pedal stiff

#1: Accelerator pedal stiff Author: trickcyclistkev PostPosted: Fri Aug 15, 2014 11:54 am

Hello!

Got a Gti 138 on 56 plate. It's a good all round car. My girlfriend drives it and her right leg hurts after only a few miles as accelerator pedal is very stiff. She loves the car but is upset she can't drive without pain in her calf.

We've had a 206 GTi 180 and a 206 HDi 110.... these cars accelerator pedals were smooth and easy to press-no problem.

Does anyone experience this problem and how have they dealt with it?

Is there a way of backing off the pedal spring?

We're in York so if you know a local-ish mechanic I'd appreciate his number!

Thanks

A 56 plate car should have the same pedal as the 180 so there's no throttle cable. Have you looked up at the mechanism/pivot area?

The 138 started production in 1999 with a Magneti Marelli engine management system.
The 56 plate 138 still has Magneti Marelli ECU with Magneti Marelli throttle unit fitted.

The 206 180 GTi and 206 110bhp diesel GTi have Bosch ECU's & throttle units (much more efficient and smoother to drive)

We're going to get a new throttle unit put on our 138. Fingers crossed it'll be easier to depress!

Will post result.

That's all very interesting, but have you checked whether you have a throttle cable or is it fly by wire?

Seems to have only considered the Ecu and throttle body brand.
