2005 Hdi Gti Abs Fault
-> 206 Problems

I have had the ABS fault issue for a while as my ABS ring is cracked on drivers side front.

Is it easier replacing the driveshaft with new ring already fitted or fitting a new ring to my existing shaft? I know the shaft has to come out regardless of what happens.

Also, is there no way of joining the ring back together, i.e. put some super steel in the gap where it's split? Sounds silly but if it's a conductivity issue can it not be repaired?

Cheers

It's easier to just change the ring rather than pulling the shaft out the box and having to then mess around replacing gear oil and oil seals etc. Especially if you don't have any other problems with the shaft e.g knocking CV joint.

The rings are very easy to replace on there own, if the old one's cracked already it will peal off quite easily. Plenty of places make the rings on there own for pennies. I've replaced both on my GTi. It's just a case of pulling the shaft out the hub pulling the old ring off, sitting the new ring on straight and then just lightly tap around it with a mallet or something not too hard until it's sat fully on the end of the shaft.

Only thing you will need to check first though is the diameter of the ring. Peugeot in there wisdom made two different sized driveshafts. One is 86mm and the other is 90mm. But for some reason the 90mm one's are slightly cheaper. Think it was about £5 inc delivery each for the 90mm and around £8 for the 86 when I bought mine. If yours turns out to be the 90 I still have 2 brand new abs rings sat in the garage which have never been used. Only one got put on the end of the shaft to then realize it was too big.

I've got a brand new driveshaft ring here for a DV6. Won't be using it now I have a Rallye, so PM me if you want it.
