#1: Dipped Headlight problems - 206 04 plate Author: mattbarker PostPosted: Fri Oct 10, 2014 10:18 am

Hi,

I'm after a bit of help if possible. My dipped headlights have stopped working and I thought it was the bulbs. I've replaced them but i've still got no lights. My full beam and side lights are still working though. I'm guessing it might be the fuse which is at fault ?

Can anyone tell me which fuse I should be looking for as I haven't got a clue ?

Thanks,

Matt.

Fuse 9 (left) and 10 (right) in the engine bay fuse box.
Since they don't share the same fuse I'd be looking at something that is common to the pair eg switch, relay or possibly a fault on the VAN circuit.

I've had this before, its a software bug.

Reboot the BSI unit.

Rebooted the BSI, the fault still occurred.

Checked fuses 9 and 10 under the bonnet and they are fine.

Looks like its something common, ie a relay but I couldn't seem to find it. Anyone know where I should be looking ?

Thanks,

Matt.

Check the wiring inside the headlamps to the bulbs.

You tried swopping the main beam bulb for the dipped?

They should both be H7's bulbs on a 2004 unless someone's changed the headlamps.

There isn't any power going to the headlamp connections, I tested this. However the wiring looks ok.

Not tried swapping the bulbs but installed new H7's on Friday so I would expect these to be ok ?

I checked the wiring to the headlamps and it look ok, however there seems to be no power getting to the connectors (tested this with a multimeter).

Installed new H7's on Friday as I thought that was the problem initially so can't see it being the bulbs ? Check those with the tester as well and look ok.

Have you tested if there is power getting to the fuses?, if there is then that would suggest the problem lies between the fuse and the headlight

Is the tell tail on the dash showing when you turn the headlights on?

Yes there is power getting to the fuses.

When I turn the lights on the green light comes on the dash and if the door is open I get the audible alarm so something thinks that the lights are on !

Check the relay in the engine bay fuse box

If power is getting to the fuses, and not getting to the lights, logicaly it would point to the headlight switch being at fault.

Do they activate, when you put them on automatic.
