#1: Overheating and stalling in heavy traffic?? Author: timolevs, Posted: Thu Oct 30, 2014 3:09 pm ---- Hi guys,
My 11 year old 206 1.4 HDI when I sit in heavy traffic the engine temp rises to 110 degrees and the engine warning light comes on and it stalls itself even with clutch down. When I start moving again the temperature returns to normal and engine light clears.
Also for a few days following this happening my car will stall out when I am in second and press down the clutch, which gets pretty hairy at times as I lose my power steering near/on roundabouts and junctions
Any ideas what is causing this ??
Thanks! Last edited by timolevs on Sat Nov 01, 2014 9:37 am; edited 1 time in total

Might be worth putting the engine you have too.
The overheating in noes to tail traffic is usually caused by the cooling fan not operating on low or high speeds. The normal suspects are:
Corroded relay terminals/wires
Broken relays (high and low speed)
Low speed fan resistor
Water temperature sensor
Could also be air in the cooling system.
I'm sure others can add to this list but i think those are the common ones.
The stalling that followed the overheat i'm not sure on though. If it got that hot the headgasket may need replacing & the cylinder head may have warped with the heat.
That's what i can think of right now, hope that helps a little bit.
Regards, Richard.

#5: Re: Overheating and stalling in heavy traffic?? Author: timolevs, Posted: Tue Dec 02, 2014 12:59 pm ---- UPDATE ON PROBLEM:
Now when idling, my car gently revs itself without me touching the accelerator pedal. Also when driving in traffic at low speeds, mostly first gear, the accelerator pedal stops working and then the car switches itself off and the engine light comes on. This is happening very often at the moment and is pretty dangerous!
