Engine Fan stays on all the time
-> 206 Problems

#1: Engine Fan stays on all the time Author: SteveUK PostPosted: Wed Nov 26, 2014 12:22 pm

Hi everyone.
First thanks for reading this.

I have picked up my daughter a Peugeot 206 to learn to drive in.

I noticed that the engine fan never goes off (when the ignition is on), I believe its a relay, but wouldn't mind it being confirmed.

I don't have a manual for the car yet, so I don't know which fuse/relays are which.

Could someone confirm if it would be the relay and if so, how to locate it.

Details
Peugeot 206
Model: GLX
Year: 1999
Reg: T Reg
Manual
Petrol 1.4

Thanks in advance

Relay could be stuck. They are behind the front grille. You'll need to remove the upper grille - the bit with the badge on to access them.
Or the ECU could be keeping the fan on for some reason.

As Edward said. If the fan comes on as soon as the ignition does, (with the engine stone cold), it would indicate to me electrics.

Here's a diagram from Peugeot planet for the front upper grille assembly:

Thank you Edward and 20Drift

I will take a look at the weekend to see if it is the replay.
Massive thank you for your help.

Well, would like to ask about the temp. gauge,is't working fine,or it shows zero,or very hot,if it's not working,it means that the temp sensor is not working (Open Circuit),as if it's unplugged.

If the first reason is not the one you got, then it's one of the 2 things, first a stuck relay,or second a faulty resistance, here is diagram so things be more clear to you while you fix it,and maybe the part numbers can be useful for you,but it's for 2006 model, not 1999.

Good Luck,
Tim

Hi
My daughters car had the opposite problem. The fan would not come on. Peugeot dealership advised looking at the relays behind the front grill. I stated that her car 2004 1.1 had nothing behind the front grill. I eventually found the relay controlling the fan inside the front of the nearside wing. Again the peugeot dealership told me that my daughters car was not fitted with that relay. I took the badly corroded relay into the dealership and purchased a replacement !!!!!. Problem solved. Her relay had corroded in the de-energised position. If yours has stuck in the energised position the fan will stay on.
