PEUGEOT 206 LX DIESEL 1.9 2002 struggling to start

#1: PEUGEOT 206 LX DIESEL 1.9 2002 struggling to start Author: PODS123 PostPosted: Fri Dec 05, 2014 6:56 am

Hi, i could use some much needed help.

My 206 is struggling to start, when it eventualy starts after a few turns, a lot of smoke pours out of the exhaust, which smells like oil. I have to rev the engine straight after starting a few times to clear the smoke and to stop the engine from cutting out.

The last few old mornings the car has struggled to start at all, i can usually get it started when i get home that evening, but it takes quite a number of turns.
It almost feels to me as if there is an issue with the fuel reaching the engine.

any advice would be very helpful?

i have a bit of a cashflow issue at the moment and i dont want to throw money away needlessly

When was the last time it was serviced, and do you use the glow plugs?

cheers for the response. not sure when the car was last serviced,
given the car for free from a friend, and have very little info on service histor, and i do not use glow plugs. would these help do you think

Im thinking it may be something to do with the diesel injector being clogged.

Do you know if they is any value in the injector cleaners you can buy?

You don't start a diesel like you would a petrol engine car, you have to let the glow plugs warm the combustion chambers first.
there should be an orange light that looks like a spring on the dash when you turn the ignition on,
let that light go out (usually about 5 seconds) then try and start the car.
it should start ok then.
not much of a fan of injector cleaners but don't think it will do any harm.
a good service will help more than a cleaner put in the fuel.

Sorry I do use the glow plugs and always let the light go out before starting.
But the car won't start after, it might 6 or 7 tries later.
It is definitely in need of a good service, but with Christmas coming up I'm already low on funds.
It is usually on the cold mornings that it won't start, at first I thought it was the battery but a jump didn't help. When it eventually starts, I have no more problems starting that day as long as I rev to clear the smoke. But the next morning it may not start again.

Might be time for a new set of glowplugs.

On this 1.9 diesel donkey fit only BERU glow plugs, there the best one's for this engine Wink
