Changed "Throttle Position Sensor" - EML still lit
-> 206 Problems

#1: Changed "Throttle Position Sensor" - EML still lit Author: Werdnal, Location: Cornwall, UK PostPosted: Sat Dec 06, 2014 7:10 am

Had a problem a few months back with EML and Anti-Pollution fault. Garage diagnosed Throttle Position Sensor, and he loaned me one off his own 206 to try for couple of days and fault did not recur. Said he could only get from Peugeot at over £200 a throw, so suggested I source one. Picked up a new one from eBay for £90, garage fitted, all fine.

Last week, EML and Anti-Pollution came up again, went back to garage for code read, and TPS showed up again. Said part must be faulty, so left me to get another through eBay and arrange refund of faulty one. New one came yesterday, hubby has just fitted and EML light is still on.

Does the car need to be plugged in again to reset the fault? Thanks,

Does it drive Ok? What car is it? What year?

Hi,

Sorry, used to have a sig strip with the car info on but seems to have disappeared. Its a 2.0HDi 52 reg. Seems fine on a short test 'round the block today, and was driving OK before we changed the TPS this morning. When the previous fault showed, it would occasionally go into limp mode before we changed the TPS the first time. I wasn't sure of the EML automatically goes out when the new part is fitted, or whether it needs a reset.

Usually you will need to go to a dealer/garage to get them to clear your codes.. unless you have a diagnostics tool and your car obd2 compliant then you can clear your own. My 206 is a 99 reg so I get it done at my local garage for £20.

Most fault codes disappear when you disconnect the battery.

Check the PP2000 map and see if someone is near you who can plug the car in for beer tokens.

Diesels became EOBD compliant in 2004. Some software works with earlier models. I've used PCMSCAN software on a 2001 diesel and had no problem.

Some codes are saved though

Thanks all, garage I use are very helpful and will probably reset it for peanuts - they actually read it this week free of charge and said come back when new sensor ready to fit, but as its only 2 bolts, cable and plug,Hubby decided to put it on himself. I will call in this week and sure he will do it for me, but just wanted to save the trip if we could clear it ourselves.

Well, this is not good ... went to garage yesterday, he plugged in and did a reset, EML went out, great. Have first replacement sensor all packed up ready to return for refund and thought all was well.

Left car parked overnight, went out this morning and EML and Antipollution Fault came on as soon as I turned the key. What is going on? Surely I can't be unlucky enough to have bought 2 duff sensors? Going back to garage tomorrow, as the guy there has a 206 himself which is off the road at the moment, and last time it happened he lent me his throttle sensor, and I drove around for a week just to make sure the light stayed out. He has offered to do same again this time, but do I really need to pay Peugeot £200K plus for a genuine part just to get the car to accept it?

Any advice much appreciated, thanks
