#1: 206 headlights wont turn off not auto headlight setting Author: jjp0121, Posted: Sat Dec 06, 2014 7:54 pm ---- Hi all my 206 is a 2002 1.4lx automatic.. the headlights won't turn off at all. I locked the car and waited half hour but the lights still didn't go off, I went for a 10 minute drive to my mates and still when I turned off the car and locked it up they where on. My pals dad had a look and disconnected the battery (only removed positive terminal) and attached it again and the lights came straight on.. I've turned the light stalk on off side lights and full beam but nothing turns them off.. full beam and indicators work fine also the rear lights turn off but still the headlights remain on.. I tried the automatic lights by holding the button on the light stalk and I didn't get a beep or anything on the display so it doesn't have that function.. key was turned btw I'm going to get a free fault diagnostic done but any help is needed really because I've had to disconnect battery for the night thanks all

#4: Re: 206 headlights wont turn off not auto headlight setting Author: jjp0121, Posted: Sun Dec 07, 2014 6:37 am ---- Switch are u/s ?? What's that mean pal and the sidelights come on and off but headlights stay on the whole time mate cheers

The headlight circuit is on all the time ..
Being a 2002 model that is going to require a complete Comm2000 unit as the column stalks are not separate.

#7: Re: 206 headlights wont turn off not auto headlight setting Author: jjp0121, Posted: Sun Dec 07, 2014 8:36 am ---- Yeah mate constantly on, the sidelights turn on and off perfect as does the indicators and main beam so is it likely not to be the stalk as every other function works..

Always disconnect the negative first and connect it last, and follow the correct procedure.
Not sure if the 2002 BSI had the 'follow me home' function and that's malfunctioned.
It is possible that because it is the early software it has never had it's update and now the bug is showing.

Planet / Diagbox time.

Then operate the light stalk rapidly half a dozen times or so. The mechanism gums up and wont allow the internal switch to return to the off position. This has worked a number of times for me on more than one 206. Cheaper than buying even a second hand replacement unit if it works, so got to be worth a try.

It is oil based so gets the dust sticking to it, which basically becomes an abrasive and causes premature wear.
This is also the reason you don't use it in door locks/petrol caps etc.
Better off buying a proper electrical contact cleaner or one of the new WD40 specialist range that contains PTFE rather than oil.
