It's just random how it has suddenly got an imobiliser problem whilst going round a corner, I will go and charge the battery on Saturday and then see if she starts. The battery connections are off ready for trying on Saturday.

Need to check I haven't got any wires rubbing or breaking.

I've read that you just keep the battery disconnected over night and charge the battery full, and then reconnect and start car?

Is it this simple?

no the car ran, then when I was going around a corner it decided to cut out and has not started since. I was on about the pump was working then stopped working temporarily and when I disconnected the battery and cleaned up the multifunction relay and then reconnected the battery the pump started working again. I tried bumping it when it first cut out with no joy what so ever. it may be a dodgy battery but it started first time everytime without any hesitation for the 2 days I was driving it?

as someone previously said I would check the earth strap. had a similar issue on my old 1.4, would start fine 80% of the time but other times nothing. earth lead was very very thin, after replacing it the car was fine

I will be having a look at it again on saturday and i'll remove all the bonding lead and clean them up and check for damage. Fingers crossed though it may start up first time after resetting the imobiliser with having the battery disconnected and charged.

If the car was running when it cut out it won't be immobiliser, you'd also have the engine light if it was when trying to start. Does the pump run constantly when connected to the battery directly?

Yes the engine light is on when the ignition is on, I will have to go and check what other lights may be on Saturday. Not sure I hav not checked that as of yet. Will it sound like it is constantly priming if i connect straight from the battery?

That's normal, it wont go out until the engine is running.

Yeah it will run constantly. Eliminates that as faulty if it runs. Does it always prime?

Yes it always primes I've checked by pressing the Shrader valve and having fuel come out each time, also I can hear the pump prime.

Is the battery light always on before starting the car? When you turn the ignition on

This might be a long shot, does the GTi have the shut off solenoid in the engine bay which is supposed to shut the engine off in the event of an accident? These have been known to trigger by going through pot holes and over speed bumps.

Hey macca yes I think it's an inertia switch, I have tried it a few times and noticed it doesn't press then depress like a button should, I'm going to the breakers to get a new one Saturday. May be faulty. Does your 206 red inertia switch press and depress after pressing it?
